Quoting: Joe5% of revenue is actually a lot if you have a successful title. On the other hand a pricing model like this makes it affordable for individual developers or small teams to pick it up without worry. If I remember correctly, it was 30% before this announcement so 5% is way better.

I've been watching this game for over a year now. They have missed their target release date by just about the same time. My buddy picked it up on early access about a month ago. He said it was alright but missing content. Now that they have a Linux version coming I plan to support them and pick it up. As far as I know it's just 2 guys writing this. Their campaign didn't pull in a lot of funds so I'm not sure if they are doing this on the side or dedicating 40 hours a week. I believe the engine is built from scratch as well so that can draw the development process out.

Quoting: aR-Have you heard of ShiVa Engine ?No, I still question how long the engine will stay around. It went through a period of time where it was seeing no updates or communication from the developers. Then, if I remember correctly, their parent company went under and there was news that the engine was going to close down. I can't really invest money in a product when I don't know the viability of the company. They are talking about version 2.0 but I'll believe it when I see it.

If I want to make a game with AAA graphics, then going with the latest standard is expected. If my graphics are middle ground, then requiring the latest and greatest tech makes it sound like I don't know what I'm doing.
OGL 3.3 back ported as much of the OGL 4.0 standard it could. Targeting OGL 3.3 would give you some of the latest tech while supporting the largest user base (besides OGL 2.1)

Quoting: liamdaweHigher OpenGL requirement is like 32/64bit, if people don't push something it will stay around too long. You forget that mesa controls the opensource OpenGL version available. OGL 3.3 was just released with mesa 10. We aren't likely to see OGL 4+ in mesa for a couple more years. (I could be wrong since people are working on OGL 4+ features already.) If Intel continues to gain ground in graphics then you have a large user base that is dependent on a library that doesn't move nearly as fast as binary blobs from AMD/Nvidia. Supporting Linux means you need to understand your market and what they can and can't support. There are many people who use only FOSS libraries even when using AMD/Nvidia cards.

I'm pretty interested in this engine. The only thing I don't like is it's OpenGL 4.0+. It eats into about 20% of the Steam user base, not sure about those outside of Steam. I've got a license for C4 Engine, tried out Unigine (great guys to work with) too expensive for me right now, Unity requires you to work in Windows, Ogre3D is limited to OpenGL2.1 and work on 3.0 is experimental. Irrlicht and OpenSceneGraph are the same way. (OSG will say they work with OGL 3+ but it's use at your own peril kind of thing)
As long as this works, without big issues, for Linux I'm probably going to get a license for it. I can deal with losing about 20% potential market for a nice easy to use engine. The price is decent as well.

The Reason Some Games Are Delayed For Linux In Humble Indie Bundles

I both see the value in their decision and pitfall of it. I've been buying the bundles since they started. They are a great way to get a lot games for a cheap price. Many of the games I have multiple copies of because I just like to support them. But anyways, they are helping Linux by getting more games to the platform. We know this isn't an easy task for many developers because they know nothing outside of Windows. They only know how to compile inside Visual Studio. The downside is you now have a game for Linux that may not get the best support. When SPAZ first came to Linux I had issues getting it to run. I even started talking with the developer (great group by the way). They had to talk to the guy that did their port, which kind of pointed me in the right direction. Good and bad I'm happy they are helping bring more games to Linux through these bundles. I won't complain that it takes longer to get to Linux. I'm happy they are supporting the platform.

Black screen on start up. That's all I get just a window with a black screen. I've tried to call it with the --software-ui flag like people say works but it doesn't. It's just a work around that works for some until the bug is fixed.

Quoting: liamdaweUnless you have a decent laptop, I imagine it would struggle with a game like this, that's kinda a given with a massive scale RTS.Nope. I went to play it one day that I had time and after struggling to make it work for a couple of hours I gave up and walked away. I tried again a couple weeks ago and the issues weren't fixed. I looked at the forums and many people report this bug. It has something to do with the UI which goes back to Coherent UI being the issue.
I take it you have reported all issues to their forum and bug tracker?

I'll be happy when this game actually works for me. I can get it to semi run on my laptop but it's not very powerful. It won't even start on my desktop because it gets all pissed off that I'm using an AMD 6870 GPU. I'm not sure if it's an issue with their stuff or Coherent UI. Either way it's turning into another game I'm disappointed I backed.
