Isometric university management game 'UniverCity' development stops - goes open source

Well, it's good to say they stop, and go open source, but the game was never fun. I played it months ago. It was barely in alpha stage, released way to soon on Early Access with almost no content.

Like too many others.

Early Access is a powerful tool, but you cannot expect to release more a prototype than a game, then provide no update, and still attract players and positive reviews.

Quoting: bigbadwaffleHi there! Developer of Isleward here. Thanks so much for posting this.

To anyone playing, I'd advise them to use the direct link: https://play.isleward.com [External Link]

The embedded player in itch works pretty well but certain hotkeys mess with the interface a bit.
Yep i can confirm that, on my french BÉPO keyboard on itchio i cannot use 1, 2, 3... to use skills, while i can via the direct link playing via Firefox.

It's actually quite fun already, even if simple.

Feels like Diablo with 3 classes (warrior, mage, archer), a hub and a lot of bashing and looting.
It has a Path of Exile skill trees, even if much simpler.
Also, it's a mmorpg, and right now there are about 20 players online.

I wanted to love this game. However, i don't.

It's still an "open world" with many instances and loadings between separated small clusters with set levels and contents per zone. Also not much to explore, a camera very close to the ground, a GUI made for tactile device and then slightly rework for PC gamers...

A conceptual failure, to my eyes.

It's now on beta via itchio "First Access" program.

I have a full access to the game, and i like it, but 10€ is a bit too much a think, content is not huge, and full price will be 15€.

Let's see how they manage the beta.

That's very nice !

However, i don't understand how to install that.

- i DL Cortex on Steam with Proton.
- DL both github zip
- open each zip and copy all files in the folder Steam is opening when i check local files
- undo Force Proton
- click Play on Steam

= Error, missing executable
or play via Proton as before.
