Relaxing nature sim 'Equilinox' is out, seems to be a hit with users

It's a nice game, but be careful : it is NOT an evolution simulation.

It's much closer to a City Builder, or even a Puzzle game, a little like Reus, where you unlock plants, fungus and animals with very specific tasks.

Instead of roads and buildings, you place grass and animals.

You will NOT see evolution in this game as you are the one placing everything. You make the steps, and a squirrel will evolve from a rabbit, a pig from a ship, etc, if and only if you set the correct environment for the new species to grow, and if you hit the "mutation" button. The only thing is from time to time, a white flower will mutate, giving a blue flower as a "baby".

It's a nice peaceful game, yes, but again, it has almost nothing to do with evolution or simulation of life.

For this, go have a look at Species ALRE (released on Steam Linux this week).

Evolution simulator 'Species: ALRE' allows you to tinker with life itself and it now has a Linux version

I played it first in 2013, i was on Windows back then, foolish.
Then i played it a little from time to time, and i'm very pleased it's coming to Linux now.

Hi

I didn't change anything, but for next time, a Proton/WINE distinction would be nice i think.

Build a colony on a hostile alien world, today Maia is finally released

Quoting: liamdaweGoing by the release notes, your request made it in:
In item build mode you can hold alt or middle click to bring up a selectable menu of items to place. This makes dealing with the longer lists much easier.
Yes thanks, the list stuff is a fine addition, but i was talking about the rooms digging and walls building. Since the first alpha i find it confusing, and according to the last trailer, it's not going to change anytime soon.

Anyway, i should at least launch the game once more and see by myself all the changes, together they may overrun my list of "bad vs good".

I've been following the game for several years now, refunded several times even...

I kept it the last time.

My main grips with the game are the AI as Liam explained, but mainly the build system, i find it really not intuitive at all.

I didn't play the last few updates, maybe it feels better, but it's a game i want to like, but didn't, until now.

Playing it since 2014 from time to time (thee was a community Linux build before it was officially supported).

It's one of the few MMOG that truely think the player is not totally stupid.

Also, i'm playing a spider. And a bat.

The main issue is not really the outdated engine, but the arts, shapes, colors, all very uninspired sadly. Shame because the gameplay itself is great.

Good news, they intend to improve the visual with time, as they already did a few times.

Anyway, it's a MMOG you should play at least a few days to understand how it's clever and more than a monster bashing game.

I'm following this star-gem since 2011. It's not getting old at all, amazing.

I love these games, but they have some common issues : Rimworld, and Dwarf Fortress, mainly.

Years on development, huge community, it's hard to do "better" or at least good or different enough to grab attention. They may become as deep, as rich, as polished, as good, as etc. But they need time, and they tend too often to stop being developed before reaching the "fun" point.

Even large challengers, like Gnomoria, wasted potential, releasing the game as "done" while it was a surprise for most, expecting at least several more months of content and polish.

I'm curious to see where this one will go !
