The Linux market share on Steam is at a 14 month high as of September 2018

i doubt we will reach higher than 1% any time soon. Proton is great, but it still needs a lot of improvements to be just 1 click to download and play. Drivers still need to get up to date and so on and on. But we are on the right track with it. There are lots of people switching to linux (probably most of them won't stay for long though) as of late. Internet is full of "Hey i switched to Linux" posts. Linus Tech Tips Videos about the proton and Low Spec Gamer one really helped there also to raise some awarness i guess. Exciting times, but i doubt there will be any huge gains in the market share yet. Lets try to report and fix all those small and big issues before.

Quoting: AnanaceI just learned that Dirt: Rally 2 is coming, so even if the chance for a same-day is small I'm hoping that they're already on-board with getting a Linux version of that out as well.

Best damn rally game I've ever played - and still play, period.
Hint Hint, we have a GOL League going on for a year or more already. Current event is also running: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/forum/topic/3480

And yeah, i would love to get some new tracks and 2017 spec WRC cars. Bring on the Dirt Rally 2

For those on NVIDIA, the 396.54.05 driver seems to have some noteworthy performance improvements

No issue for me with DOOM on a multi-monitor setup. Have 2x 2560x1440 monitors, MATE Desktop. All is like it was with previous proton builds

Quoting: YoRHa-2BWhat they improved in the driver is apparently reporting whether a resource should be created with a dedicated allocation [External Link] or not, which is necessary on Nvidia hardware to enable things like compression on render targets. DXVK heavily relies on the driver giving correct hints, whereas other native games might not, and DOOM probably doesn't even use the extension because the game is so old.
Thanks for the insight, interesting to know :)

I guess in future I will need to pick up a few extra games for DXVK/Steam Play testing, when we figure out the issue with DOOM anyway.

Quoting: dannielloDOOM is not using DXVK because it is Vulkan native game (as option, by default it is using OpenGL), so probably in this case there is no improvement at all.
It's still a Vulkan game and simply one I was going to test, NVIDIA didn't mention in the notes it would mainly help DXVK as the author has pointed out in the comments.
DOOM has zero perf improvements with 396.54.05 over the regular 396.54. As already said its using much older vulkan version.

GTA V on the other hand went from 70-90fps to 90-110FPS in the GPU bound situations (which are the most situations for me with 2560x1440) and the GPU utilization is now a bit lower also, around 90% while it was constantly 100% before

It's an amazing Game imo. Music is great and sets the mood. Setting is amazing and its well presented imo. Only small issues for me were the animations when running where a bit wonky and some cutscenes paused weirdly before continuing. Didnt have any issues with buttons or puzzles. Overall very good game for linux and performs and looks good also. The best Story game i played this year for sure.

Looks nice. I got the key from the developer as well, but haven't tried yet. When i get some time i try to test also and give feedback.

What are you playing this weekend?

Didn't have much time to play much, but managed to do the Dirt Rally event on Sunday and played a bit GTA V via steam play. Luckily save games worked from my previous non-steam version.

Yeah, would like to see some gameplay also. But its probably too early for them to show some gameplay. Looks interesting though. added to wishlist to track it.

SCUM, a very exciting sounding open-world survival game should come to Linux

Quoting: mylkado they use VULKAN on windows?
no -vulkan, no -opengl

perf is also terrible, so better wait for native version.
