How many buzzwords does this guy use? Yikes!

Seriously, though, this is yet another example of why consolidation is bad for everyone. Why is it never the high-ups who took the company in this direction who lose their jobs for it?
Those are exactly the kind of buzzwords he has to use to get BlackRock, Vanguard and State Street to give him more money. It's not an accident.

Steam Deck a 'stable target for a couple years' so no Steam Deck 2 for a while

The current generation of GPUs (RDNA 3) and CPUs (Zen 4) really aren't an impressive leap over the generation the Steam Deck has (RDNA 2 and Zen 3), so I think Valve is smart to wait. Both AMD and nVidia are experiencing lackluster sales this generation, so it would seem the market as a whole looked at the upgrades on offer and went "meh."

As a student of history, any time I see "year zero" I am reminded of the communist concept of year zero. This was actually enacted once, by Pol Pot, and contends that "all culture and traditions within a society must be completely destroyed or discarded and that a new revolutionary culture must replace it starting from scratch. In this sense, all of the history of a nation or a people before Year Zero would be largely deemed irrelevant, because it would ideally be purged and replaced from the ground up."

Looking forward to this. It'll be nice to have a scifi WWII game that doesn't suck (looking at the latest Wolfenstein games for contrast).

I really wish they'd open source the newer id games. They deserve the opportunity for the legacy of the classics.

Part of the problem here is that what we're seeing is corporatism. Capitalism is supposed to be regulated such that a free market always exists. There are antitrust laws that are supposed to be enforced.

Somewhere along the line, politicians started taking "campaign contributions" from "special interest groups" rather than doing their job, and now it's almost a rarity to see antitrust action taken or really anything done other than cronyism. We already live in the post-capitalist world, and that's the reason we see so much corruption. We are letting corporations and special interests operate above the law and we are not holding politicians to account.

I would gladly pay twice as much for a product to buy it on Steam. Valve cares about the community and proves it over and over. My loyalty to them is iron clad.

Fantastic. Quake 2 is a superb title and really raised the bar when it came out back in 1997. Its environments were rich and connected, there was much more attention paid to atmosphere, and the game played well. Comparing it to other games from 1997 and earlier, it was clearly a trendsetter.

I just can't support Epic, even if it's free.
