Steam Deck gets a small update to fix Downloads, adds Triggers for Keyboard
8 Apr 2022 at 12:22 pm UTC

You can use the Left and Right Triggers to select keys
Wait, what did you use instead of triggers before? That's how it works with the SC.

Is there non-staggered layouts (non-typewriter shaped), or someting like the old SC big picture one, which makes more important keys bigger?
More generally, can keyboard skins change the layout? Like the poster above asks :)

when can we expect support of azerty keyboard ?

[fr]
quand peut-on s'attendre à la prise en charge du clavier azerty ?
AZERTY is such a pain, even for writing French... And since it's not like you can use your existing muscle memory anyway, why not go all the way to BÉPO? You could then easily type ÉÈ»«… and others, like non-breaking spaces.

Linus Sebastian from LTT said he had to launch GTA V 7 times IIRC... And it worked only once.
Yes, definitely some issues here.

I like the steam controller virtual keyboard, is there something similar with the touchpads on Steam Deck? I think I would be more proficient with that than a touchscreen.

Imagination Technologies bringing open source PowerVR drivers

About that... see how bad the powerVR source leak turned out for PowerVR drivers.

Although, if there was a verilog leak, things might turn interesting.

That was unexpected. PowerVR until now has been the single worst GPU vendor I can think of. Worse OSS support than nvidia...

Thankfully their IP isn't used a lot these days, it was much more common on the early days of embedded GPUs though (think the first iphones). And the source code leak from some time ago didn't help open source drivers [External Link]. I wonder if they will release documentation for earlier models? That would help efforts like postmarketos or Android on the earlier iphones and other smartphones.

That change of heart probably has something to do with chromebooks, indeed. Let's hope Google doesn't ship Fuschia too soon.

Edit: current PR is for Series 6XT [External Link] (iphone6ish, 2014-era), as well as much more recent A and B series. It could be interesting to support as far back as series 4, though I am not sure if it's worth the work (documentation would be appreciated in any case).

(@liam: I had to manually encode the link's closing parenthesis as %29. An issue with the markdown parser?)

Edit2: well, maybe earlier GPUs can't really efficiently support vulkan anyway :dizzy:

Steam Deck - what to expect for launch tomorrow with nearly 800 titles Playable

I don't want to be that person, and I'm very excited about the Steam Deck, but it's probably going to bomb in the mainstream media (remember steam machines? not that bad, but I expect the same kind of comments), so I wonder if we'll ever see these "testing" branches materialize.

Once more games are verified, the Deck will stand a second chance.

I'm keeping my expectations low on purpose. I only ask to be mistaken :P

$3500 for SimulaVR is steep even if it is a standalone work-oriented headset.
Ah, I hadn't realized you were talking about their standalone headset. I was talking about their wayland compositor, which has existed for a while, and allows you some of the multi-monitor madness you were talking about :)

A little Half-Life on the go? Will you be playing this one on Deck?
As one of the few FPS games in my library, yeah, I might try it just to see how it handles.
I'm waiting for the originals: HL1, Blueshift/Opposing force, CS 1.6. Not sure if they will get a facelift, I somewhat doubt it (but hey, they were ported over to Linux, soo...)

I also would really like to see Half-Life: Decay and its split-screen action ported over (originally developed for ps2).

Not even on tripods? I screwed them on some wooden mezzanine pillars when I first got them. I've moved elsewhere now, and I don't really have free space for VR anymore :/

If I were to empty the living room, I guess I could use tripods, or stick them to the wall, maybe even drill the wall (a single screw should be plenty already.

It's true it's one more thing to set up, but in my case the most annoying step always was to clear up some space.

Interesting that this was added as a launch option, and not the default. This is probably the default launch option when playing under the default configuration, but those who run windows on their deck might have to manually set it.
