Easy Anti-Cheat are apparently "pausing" their Linux support, which could be a big problem (updated)

Quoting: GuestCan't Epic Games just die somewhere lonely in a corner?
It might happen when fortnite will be on the decline. I foresee them pouring huge amounts of money to try and save their cash cow. Of course, that's a possibility among others.

That got me thinking: I would like to see a possibility to whitelist some accounts so that they do not require EAC. That would perhaps be a better solution in cases such as yours.

Black Mesa looks pretty incredible in the latest teasers, new roadmap shown

Quoting: KristianOn a different matter does anyone have a list of FPS games with 100% FLOSS code(game, engine, shades, tools etc)? Whether with or without free data?
I just found this [External Link] a minute ago on reddit [External Link]. Haven't explored it yet.

Supergiant Games now have Bastion, Transistor and Pyre up on itch.io

Quoting: michaLove itch.io! I miss cloud saves sine I'm constantly switching machines though. Well, nothing is perfect. =)
Lutris might be working on it, I wonder if that wouldn't be a solution.

Ideally, I could just point clients at my nextcloud webdav server (or NAS/sshfs/NFS/dropbox/drive/rsync+inotify/etc), if bandwidth and disk space are what's keeping such services from offering cloud syncs.

Likewise, software does not need to be libre (se CLAs) nor open source (see Icculus ports) for people to contribute back :)
Sorry to have started this discussion. But I still feel like a GPL-ed engine could go places if developers weren't afraid of that license.

Are they considering contributing back some of their improvements to the source engine? Quite some mods and games might benefit from them, and it's not extremely worth it to keep them to themselves :)

We might actually see a rough Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation beta for Linux soon

Well, it turns out I wasn't wrong after all ;)

They should probably release it and let the community do its thing, it would be really nice to have another benchmark to optimize against, that stresses out different parts of the stack.
That is, as long as they do not try to do some funky stuff to work around performance issues.

If they are targetting Stadia first, it seems strange to interact with nvidia, so that would likely be for a desktop target.
If they are working with AMD on that, chances are they are working with AMDVLK, which is the only driver officially supported, though I must admit it generally offers a subpar experience as compared to RADV.

On the bright side, the desktop platform is a nice stress test before porting to stadia, and gives developers lots of "beta testers" ('cause that's what gamers are, nowadays). And if most of the porting work is already done, we should probably see more titles anyways, so that's a win.

Plus, as stated by einherjar, more game developer experience is always a plus.

Elsewhere is an in-development game of crafting, exploration and survival that could be interesting

I haven't watched the trailer, yet I cant't help but think that not doing this with the Minetest game engine is a missed opportunity for everyone.

Go figure, I'm probably too much of an open-source nut at this point.

Surviving Mars: Green Planet to introduce terraforming, releasing in Q2 this year

Quoting: Purple Library Guy
Quoting: TheRiddickThe whole idea of terraforming mars is a bit of a pipe dream. The amount of energy and resources needed makes it impractical and impossible for humans to achieve, but whatever..
Yeah, well, if you want to have fun thinking about terraforming it's pretty much the only game in town. It's not like anyone's gonna terraform Jupiter, or even Venus.
I do wonder about fiddling with the orbit of something big and made of volatiles to smash it into Mars (which appears to be one of the game options). That would give you some water and atmosphere to start from. You could use its own substance for reaction mass so it wouldn't be so huge a project . . .
Impractical, sure, but impractical things have been done before. Impossible? I wouldn't think so.
I wonder how long the atmosphere would last before you would have to do such a thing again. I've been toying with the idea of a deflector (basically the same system as in an electron gun) in Mars's L1. The idea being to deflect enough solar wind (and you can use the reaction to stay in place) to reduce atmospheric tear-off, and maybe provide some cover for would-be astronauts.
Unfortunately, I am afraid that you would need an excessively large structure, or very high potentials to create a decent electric field, and protection aura. I haven't done any calculations, though (yet).

Of course, the answer is to place a portal on Venus and another on Mars :D
(though if I had a portal gun, I would place one in the bottom of the ocean, and the other under a rocket...)

Now, in my opinion, an (arguably more) interesting question is the following: you have the tech to terraform Mars. Would you do it? There are so many potential fossils, bacterial and geological features you might destroy forever doing so...

I just hope they took a semi-realistic approach to terraforming (lichen/bacteria first, I guess?). Given that I've seen windmills in their previous trailers, I have slight doubts, though.
All right, I just hope it's fun :)

Edit: I was making sure the keywords I put were specific enough to turn out some interesting info for the curious, and it seems that NASA already thought about such a shield: https://phys.org/news/2017-03-nasa-magnetic-shield-mars-atmosphere.html [External Link]
I had the idea first, though, of course ^_^
(actually, a lot of people seem to ask the same question if you look for "Mars L1").

The end of the trailer screams this to me:

I hope they will reference this :D

This expansion could be interesting, if done right... I'm looking forward to this, though I am not willing to invest some time in a new game right now :)

DXVK, the Vulkan-based layer for Direct3D 10/11 in Wine has a major 1.1 release out now (updated)
6 Apr 2019 at 7:05 pm UTC Likes: 3

You might want to note the following:

Note: For best performance, both your Wine version and graphics driver must support VK_EXT_host_query_reset. This new extension is available in Wine 4.5 as well as Proton 4.2, and on the following drivers:

AMD / Intel: Mesa 19.1-git
Nvidia: 418.49.4

Without this extension, certain games, such as Quake Champions, may perform significantly worse than with DXVK 1.0!
