We might actually see a rough Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation beta for Linux soon

Well, it turns out I wasn't wrong after all ;)

They should probably release it and let the community do its thing, it would be really nice to have another benchmark to optimize against, that stresses out different parts of the stack.
That is, as long as they do not try to do some funky stuff to work around performance issues.

If they are targetting Stadia first, it seems strange to interact with nvidia, so that would likely be for a desktop target.
If they are working with AMD on that, chances are they are working with AMDVLK, which is the only driver officially supported, though I must admit it generally offers a subpar experience as compared to RADV.

On the bright side, the desktop platform is a nice stress test before porting to stadia, and gives developers lots of "beta testers" ('cause that's what gamers are, nowadays). And if most of the porting work is already done, we should probably see more titles anyways, so that's a win.

Plus, as stated by einherjar, more game developer experience is always a plus.

Elsewhere is an in-development game of crafting, exploration and survival that could be interesting

I haven't watched the trailer, yet I cant't help but think that not doing this with the Minetest game engine is a missed opportunity for everyone.

Go figure, I'm probably too much of an open-source nut at this point.

Surviving Mars: Green Planet to introduce terraforming, releasing in Q2 this year

Quoting: Purple Library Guy
Quoting: TheRiddickThe whole idea of terraforming mars is a bit of a pipe dream. The amount of energy and resources needed makes it impractical and impossible for humans to achieve, but whatever..
Yeah, well, if you want to have fun thinking about terraforming it's pretty much the only game in town. It's not like anyone's gonna terraform Jupiter, or even Venus.
I do wonder about fiddling with the orbit of something big and made of volatiles to smash it into Mars (which appears to be one of the game options). That would give you some water and atmosphere to start from. You could use its own substance for reaction mass so it wouldn't be so huge a project . . .
Impractical, sure, but impractical things have been done before. Impossible? I wouldn't think so.
I wonder how long the atmosphere would last before you would have to do such a thing again. I've been toying with the idea of a deflector (basically the same system as in an electron gun) in Mars's L1. The idea being to deflect enough solar wind (and you can use the reaction to stay in place) to reduce atmospheric tear-off, and maybe provide some cover for would-be astronauts.
Unfortunately, I am afraid that you would need an excessively large structure, or very high potentials to create a decent electric field, and protection aura. I haven't done any calculations, though (yet).

Of course, the answer is to place a portal on Venus and another on Mars :D
(though if I had a portal gun, I would place one in the bottom of the ocean, and the other under a rocket...)

Now, in my opinion, an (arguably more) interesting question is the following: you have the tech to terraform Mars. Would you do it? There are so many potential fossils, bacterial and geological features you might destroy forever doing so...

I just hope they took a semi-realistic approach to terraforming (lichen/bacteria first, I guess?). Given that I've seen windmills in their previous trailers, I have slight doubts, though.
All right, I just hope it's fun :)

Edit: I was making sure the keywords I put were specific enough to turn out some interesting info for the curious, and it seems that NASA already thought about such a shield: https://phys.org/news/2017-03-nasa-magnetic-shield-mars-atmosphere.html [External Link]
I had the idea first, though, of course ^_^
(actually, a lot of people seem to ask the same question if you look for "Mars L1").

The end of the trailer screams this to me:

I hope they will reference this :D

This expansion could be interesting, if done right... I'm looking forward to this, though I am not willing to invest some time in a new game right now :)

DXVK, the Vulkan-based layer for Direct3D 10/11 in Wine has a major 1.1 release out now (updated)

You might want to note the following:

Note: For best performance, both your Wine version and graphics driver must support VK_EXT_host_query_reset. This new extension is available in Wine 4.5 as well as Proton 4.2, and on the following drivers:

AMD / Intel: Mesa 19.1-git
Nvidia: 418.49.4

Without this extension, certain games, such as Quake Champions, may perform significantly worse than with DXVK 1.0!

Quoting: MayeulCIIRC, the story is broken if you don't set the LC_COLLATE=C environment variable (with the game depending on locale-specific file sorting to pick the next level). I wonder if they fixed that as well?
I backed this game, but I admit I have so much fun stuff to play, and so little time, that I haven't gotten around to finish this one.
I don't have any environment variable set and managed to play the full story (almost, never finished the last level... shame on me, finishing the boring - ihmo - story is the only way to enjoy the game freely) so maybe it has been fixed. :|
It only happens if you have a locale that sorts differently than the one on the developer's machines, though. I believe I used FR_fr.utf-8 (on slackware) back then.

Creating a shortcut in KDE dolphin (drag and drop, link) should do just that (a symbolic link)

I suspect people would likely have better performance with another filesystem than ntfs/fat. But I can see why dualbooters would have trouble deciding on the Windows/linux split. I've been there in the past (and just kept deleting games from the windows side and enlarging the Linux one, until Windows was no more :)

Risk of Rain 2 works very nicely on Linux thanks to Steam Play, it's also pretty crazy

I had a blast with this one, was really surprised at how smoothly it went. However, I agree that I am a bit afraid they might add some anti-cheat and ruin compatibility with Proton.
