That's an interesting move. I hope it won't hinder testing on 32bits operating system, although those need to die off too.
I still have a 32bits-only laptop (mini notebook from ~2008 I think) around, and I regularly use it to play *small* games and not too demanding ones as a general rule. I might get around buying a chromebook (maybe for a better screen/performance - hopefully enough to stream a game - in LAN parties when I can't really move my desktop around), but in my (personal) opinion, laptops need to be portable, and have a good battery life. For other uses, I have my desktop. But I digress.
Small feature request, Liam: Would it be possible to indicate the developer position on hovering the badge (for example: "Unity dev", or "XYZ lead dev/PR head/whatever"? Could be of some use, sometimes :)

I am not sold on their new launcher. But I might end up using it, after all.
It also looks like they added some item for respawn or falling damage prevention?

The Linux port of space action game 'EVERSPACE' is sounding a bit iffy now

That said, it's not a magic bullet either, and DX consists of more than just D3D, but the same argument applies.
I would also be curious concerning the said limitations of OpenGL compared to DirectX, on the technical side.
In my experience, working with OpenGL was not that complicated (and seems to become simpler/more explicit down the vulkan path). Your mileage may vary, though, depending on your tastes and what you are familiar with.

Quoting: skinnyrafWell, OpenGL is cross-platform, even to a larger extent than the 3 main desktop OSes. The alternative ones, first, then the (majority of) consoles, as well as mobile devices. That's not even counting exotic hardware out there (smart TVs, vehicle infotainment, software rasterizers, etc...) that's potentially more than 2% market share, especially as you factor in future proofing your product (avoiding lock in, potentially more platforms too, and better forward compatibility potential).Quoting: MyeulCI hope they will sort these issues out. That's probably another reason to start with OpenGL rather than DX...And penalise 90%+ of your clients to make life easier for the 2%? OpenGL has limitations that DX doesn't.

This game looks nice, and as always, I find it really interesting when developers share technical details about their issues, even if it could be a bit more detailed in this case.
I hope they will sort these issues out. That's probably another reason to start with OpenGL rather than DX...

I am still not sold on this one. I mean: I really want to buy it and play it, but I know my current rig won't handle it.
I am waiting for the new AMD stuff to upgrade, but that won't be before next year.
However, I really want to show some support. Should I buy it now?

Unity 5.6 will be the first version of Unity to have SDL for Linux
10 Nov 2016 at 5:29 pm UTC
I am glad they took the SDL route. I didn't occur to me that they weren't already using it. I guess this explains quite a lot of the early bugs, especially concerning mouse handling.
SDL is such a great tool. It has been around for a long time, I never encountered any bugs, and its developer is now a Valve employee. However, it's not a magic bullet, if you want to make a good 3D game, you will probably have to use Vulank/OpenGL, and OpenAL. I emphasize the last word; HRTF is so great, and having a maximum number of games using OpenAL means we get it for free :)
This Na'Tosha seems to be one of the most dedicated developers we have. Many thanks to her and the whole (Linux) Unity team ! <3

Quoting: Beamboomit's not me whom vocabulary is just a bit outdatedTo nitpick, shouldn't this have been "whose"? :D (but I must say I would have worded it differently anyway - not a native speaker either, btw).

'Super Rad Raygun' might be the retro action game you need, now on Linux

+1 stan :D
Now, it makes me want a game boy port, just for the sake of it (Retro City Rampage was intended to be a NES game - and was released - so it's definitely possible ^^)
Looks pretty cool, but I am not really into that kind of game. I may pick it up later, though.

As for your game, I am sorry to say that I didn't buy it until the Humble Bundle (I wasn't even sure it was in my library to begin with).
I however remember looking at it quite a lot of times and wondering wether to buy it, but it didn't appeal too much for me... Tastes, you know :) I guess it's the same about every game, platform or thing ever made. Some people don't like chocolate cakes, hey.
So, while I feel a bit guilty about not really purchasing your game (even though I put non-linux games at 0 in my humble bundle purchase), I think those figures are pretty accurate, expected, and, most of all, interesting. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on it, too.
I must say that given those figures, I was expecting a bit more hostility (à la Garry Newman :) ) towards this market. I however still have some hope that it will grow even more in the following years. Plus, being multi-platform is "future proofing" [External Link], and has quite a lot of advantages that don't need to be detailed here. But that's very true that it's different from actually supporting a game. I guess that continuous integration with unit test would help, here, but that could be said of any project, and requires testing anyway.
I don't have any magic bullet for solving those issues, but now I have something to chew on for the next couple of days :)
P.S: On the plus side, you could now probably provide a Steam Marines build for the Raspberry [would be cool to see a steam-like store there], Smart TVs, car infotainment systems, the steam controller, and maybe some toaster out there. How cool is that? :D (and how useless, btw).

Should I pick up this one right away, or quickly return to Windows and finish HR to avoid Spoilers?
With that said, I will probably wait for Zen to upgrade my motherboard, RAM and CPU, and maybe vega for my next GPU, depending on my finances.
