I am kinda salty they sell the same game again and don't just add languages to the existing game so owners of the party packs don't spend money twice. However I am glad they made an international version at all and that they really seem to support Linux.

Quoting: Jewgeni Filippowitsch IwanowskiYou can buy a nearly identical (but differently branded) variant at tuxedocomputers.com [External Link]. I guess it comes without the open firmware though. Maybe you can force-install it.Tuxedocomputers uses their tuxedo bios, which is based on coreboot. They also employ coreboot developers and contribute upstream to the project.

Games that run better on the switch emulators? Well Animal crossing comes to mind for Ryujinx. The Super Marion games like most games run better on Yuzu. This is However always changing as development for both emulators continues. Oh and yes the difference is sometimes drastic. Some games boot on Ryujinx and render game graphics correctly and are completely broken or won't even boot on Yuzu. Oftentimes it is the other way around though. Same thing with performance, some games are playable on moderate hardware on one emulator and a stuttery mess on even the highest end of computers on the other emulator.

Quoting: CyrilBut both are open source and free software (GPL2 and MIT) which is good for me, so that's why I asked because I didn't try yet those emulators.CemU Developers said they are planning to support Linux when they finally go open source. It also seems like they are serious about that because they say that their decision to use OpenGL (and now Vulkan) over DirectX was made specifically with Linux support in Mind. However as of right now they are not and there is no timeframe when the will go open source and until then do not expect linux support from the developers officially. CemU is also not open to contributions so even if there were some avid Linux developers, they could not implement it until they go open source. However since they chose OpenGL and Vulkan Cemu runs basically flawlessly with wine on Linux.
It's pretty amusing because for Wii U emulators it seems a bit more complicated, Cemu is proprietary and Windows only, and Decaf is open source (GPL3) and Linux friendly but in early state...
Have you some games in mind that runs better on one or another? And is that drastically better?
Anyway, thanks for your answer!

Quoting: benjamimgoisWell the problem with this is that steam games (wine-steam) will count as windows user. I think it would be better to enhance the linux numbers and visibility if we use the native steam launcher and lutris for everything else. You can play Steam play/proton games in Lutris. However some games do not run as good (or at all) with proton and run very well with a Lutris install script. For those games I'll always choose Lutris + wine (+ DXVK).
Quoting: CyrilSpeaking of that, do you prefer Ryujinx over Yuzu? If yes, why? :)Well currently no, yuzu is just far ahead in terms of game compatibility and performance especially since their Vulkan update. However Ryujinx is just as open source and Linux friendly and some games just run better on Ryujinx and I think it has great potential.

If they also add ryujinx emulator as a runner in the future, Lutris may possibly be the only thing I'll use to launch and manage games.

I love this. I love playing their game at uni, where virtually everybody speaks English well enough. However it is almost impossible to play them in party-like settings as there is always someone unable or unwilling to play those games in English.

Quoting: GuestJust to offer an alternative view: how do you know something is a better option if nobody tries to do something else? Looking at the space bar, and some comments here, I could definitely go for space on the right, capslock on the left (programmable at the keyboard firmware level of course).Well I agree. I have nothing against them bringing a different product to the market, just to make that clear. If they think that is a good business decision they shall go for it. Not a waste, just no benefit for me. I also see nothing I am interested in being inspired by this. There are (firmware-level) freely programmable Keyboards out there for cheap (look on ebay for those from Supermarket counters), there are 100% custom layouts and such things have been tried before. This is just a mishmash of existing things imo.
Maybe overall it's not for your taste, and that's fine. It might be for someone else's though, or it might inspire ideas in others that build something that is for your taste. So I wouldn't see anything they're doing as a waste.

I on the other hand find it odd when people see something being different/new/something or someone else as a virtue unto itself. I wish System 76 all the best and appreciate their contributions to open source projects, but if I want to support developers, I donate, and if I want a Laptop or a keyboard, I will buy what best suits my needs. And right now there are arguably better options for all their products.

Quoting: Liam DaweI do always find it odd when people ask "why when x exists?". Nothing moves on both in hardware and software, without more people and companies trying to make things. Competition is good too and a 100% Linux focused vendor doing it is obviously icing on the cake, the stronger they are as a company the better. If I started manufacturing cars and made a car competing with e.g. the VW Golf but being worse in (almost) every perceivable way, there would be (almost) no benefit to the market. I as a consumer would have no meaningful benefit if the additional option is not worth considering. Competition is awesome, but sometimes it is the underdog, that is the worse competitor. Competition works by people choosing the product, that is better (for their needs) not by buying partisan. This also applies to Linux-Laptops, I will only buy a Laptop from the likes of Purism System 76, Tuxedo etc. if they actually offer me a better package than the Linux-Laptops from Lenovo, Dell and HP.
