Another bit of annoyance for Dying Light fans. Techland have release an update for Dying Light adding in workshop support for mods, and the mod tools to go along with it. The kicker is that it all needs Windows.

If you load up Dying Light today you will get this new option:

When you try it, you get the infamous “Missing executable” error pop up box.

We notified them that the Custom Game (Workshop content) didn’t work on Linux, and they did reply (nice to see they are paying attention to twitter for once):

Hours later they put up the official announcement about it on Steam here, and it doesn’t mention it’s Windows only, but I can assure you the mod tools were designed for Windows (I was in the beta), and no movement on the workshop support for Linux yet.

Considering Techland have been locking down Dying Light to “prevent cheating”, and went the way of official mod tools, you would think they would make sure they work on Linux too. It would be great if all their customers would be able to use the official tools, right?

We hope they don't keep us waiting too long before they decide to put up the Linux build of the workshop player.

I'm still a big fan of the main Dying Light campaign (minus the ending), but Techland’s level of Linux support has me rather worried right now. Shame really, I would much rather praise them.

Techland, I think we deserve a little better from you considering the price point of the game, don’t you? Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I haven't been impressed at all by Techland's level of Linux support. It took them quite a while to fix game breaking bugs (like the safe house bug) and performance is still sub-par. Now these new features, like workshop, aren't even provided to Linux users.

This is a game I'd like but I'm holding off until these various issues are addressed. I'm still getting freezes in Dead Island and it looks like I may have to just put up with that... that's not right and I'm not going to spend money on Dying Light (or any other game from now on for that matter) if it's not working properly (good enough, isn't... good enough - for me or my money).

Aspyr - Borderlands 2 and all DLC, what perfect porting Now there's a good benchmark. There are others too, of course but I've sunk many hours into that one and it's been nothing but a joy for me, zero issues, so worth mentioning.

Looks like we have enough quality games coming through to be picky and let's be honest, I can't afford them all anyway :P

Outside UE4 and FLOSS engines are there tools with a Linux version out there for any 3D engine?

I did get this response from their support team, so hopefully they're working on it:

"As far as improving gaming experience on Linux is concerned, please rest assured that our dev team members are doing their best as we speak. Anything which is present on Windows is ultimately going to work on Linux too. Releasing patches has not ended at this point"

Thanks for badgering them Liam...it's super important that they are informed of our displeasure!. I've been looking at this but won't touch it until they improve performance, particularly given that the visuals are part of the appeal of this game, and if they run crapola, it's definitely not worth getting.
