TaleWorlds Entertainment are continuing to support Mount & Blade: Warband, with a new beta that offers up 64bit support for Linux. Quite some time ago, our contributor Samsai said it was "an awesome RPG".

It seems the current version has been causing Linux gamers some hassle for a while, with it simply not working on some newer distributions. Rather than drop support, they're making steps to improve their Linux build. This is how support should be done, hats off to TaleWorlds for doing the right thing for us.

To access it, you need to go into the properties for the game on Steam, hit the Beta tab and enter in the password "betapassword" to have it appear. Once you opt in, a new download should commence for it.

In preparation for future updates to macOS and Linux distributions, we have made 64-bit versions of Mount & Blade: Warband available on these platforms. The builds are currently in an open beta testing phase, which players are encouraged to download and test […].

Providing everything goes to plan, we will be pushing this build out to all users after the testing phase to replace the 32-bit version that is currently available

If you have issues, they've asked you go through their official support channels.

Want a copy? It's currently 60% off on Humble Store or you can find it on Steam.

That's great! I have the game on GOG tho, so I don't think I can access it yet :(

Edit: found another sale for a Steam copy. It's going for €3,49 along with the original Mount and Blade & Mount and Blade: With Fire and Sword on https://www.greenmangaming.com/games/mount-blade-triple-pack-pc/

Wow I didn't expect this one... I was wondering if I should play via Proton now, but I'm definitely going to have a look at this to see if it really solves the crashes I always have. That would make me very happy, Warband is one of my favorite game of all times.

They only have a Windows icon though, as I've been told by numerous developers before keys can be per-platform. So they get a sale, you can play it on Linux, but it would be a Windows sale. I'm always wary of such deals, although it depends how much you care about counting for Linux.

I'm with Rutine: I did not expect this at all. I take back all the unpleasant things I may possibly have said about TaleWorlds on the Steam forums.

Nice news, Mount and Blade is one of my favorite video game.

Most devs would have abandoned the game long ago so TaleWorlds Entertainment should have a fair bit of credit for setting a good example here. Nicely done ^_^

Wow! =D This is amazing news! Mount and Blade: Warband is one of my all time favorite games, and it's simply amazing that it's still being given this level of attention from the devs. :)

Few months ago I asked a few developers about their games sold in Bundlestars/Fantical, where there was a steam key but without Linux icon.

I asked if this counts as sales for Linux.

For example, a developer from Shadowrun Returns - told me that it did not matter, just buy and enjoy.

They told me that every key sold is not assigned to the platform, but to the publisher. So it not matter. There are no Windows only or Linux only keys. There are Publisher only keys. This matter only if game have many publishers like Feral games.

Also asked if they know that Im buy it on Linux and play on Linux. They told me that - they see at steamworks how many players playing on windows, mac and linux. They dont need to sell seperate keys per platform (because this keys not exist).
So these things do not matter to them. Sorry for language, im not native speaker.
