By - | Views: 11,685

Nice to see more games blend entirely different genres together. Harvested has you build a city like a strategy game and become a soldier on the field in a top-down shooter style.

Speaking to the developer on Steam, Vashta Entertainment, they confirmed Linux support is planned. Their previous game, Trenches of War, is also available on Linux. Take a look at their trailer below, keeping in mind it's currently in development in Early Access:

More about it:

Harvested has all the fun you'd expect from a strategy game - resource management, base building, and epic combat.

Additionally, Harvested lets you play as a soldier on the field.

A carefully-designed and meticulously-tested control scheme gives you all the power of a real time strategy game and a top-down shooter. There is no need to switch modes - every action is at your fingertips all the time.

Harvested defies he status-quo of bland procedural generation with hand-crafted maps that cater to specific strategies and conceal rewarding secrets.

You can have a look in more detail on Steam.

The genre-blending reminds me of two favorite games from my childhood, Battlezone and its sequel Battlezone II: Combat Commander, though those were real-time strategy mixed with first-person shooter gameplay. It's an interesting idea, though I'm not sure I enjoy top-down shooters as much.
