"Heavy Metal brings a greater level of diversity to BATTLETECH by including eight new ‘Mechs and a variety of devastating weapon systems that will change the way players destroy their opponents," said Mitch Gitelman, BATTLETECH Game Director and co-founder of Harebrained Schemes. "The new mini-campaign weaves its way through your mercenary career to the point when you become an elite MechCommander, capable of facing off with two of the most legendary MechWarriors in BATTLETECH history."

Feature Highlight:

  • One Original and Seven Classic BattleMechs: Seven classic ‘Mechs from BATTLETECH’s 35-year legacy make their triumphant return along with the first completely new ‘Mech designed exclusively for this expansion. Each classic ‘Mech comes with unique equipment that reflects the flavor and lore of the original board game.
  • Eight Game-changing New Weapon Systems: Eight all-new weapon systems can be utilized to destroy even the most formidable opponents in a wide variety of unique ways. The ‘Mech Mortar is the first AOE weapon in BATTLETECH and can destroy multiple units at once, while the new COIL Beam generates more energy the further the attacker travels before firing, a perfect fit for light ‘Mechs.
  • New Flashpoint Mini-Campaign: Come face-to-face with two legendary characters from BATTLETECH lore - the Bounty Hunter and the Black Widow of Wolf’s Dragoons. A derelict cargo ship has drifted into the Periphery from deep space; what secrets does it contain, and who will ultimately control its mysterious payload?

It will be included in the Season Pass, otherwise priced at around $19.99 / £15.49 / €19.99 depending on your region.

You can wishlist/follow it on Steam. As for the base game and current expansions and DLC, it's all on sale for PDXCON. You can find them all on Humble Store, GOG and Steam.

Sounds great, tho probably already done reasonably well with mods like advance 3062 etc.. The biggest issue for me under Linux is OpenGL seems to be around 10-20fps slower then windows (hurts 4k players), and the game overall under all platforms still has memory leaks and/or gradual slowdown issues (inc stutters/pauses).

Deleting majority of your save files can help a bit with loading and such, but the other optimisation issues are still present.

EDIT: Yes they could look at enabling vulkan support if it works on Unity3d engine end 2018 (what game currently uses).

New mechs for those looking for a list:
Archer
Assassin
Vulcan
Rifleman
Flea
Phoenix Hawk
Annihilator
and a new model: Bull Shark (95tons)

Most of the new weapon systems are from the old books: UAC, LBx, inferno rounds, NARC & TAG.

I'm a little nervous about some of the (truly) new weapon systems. Every time they did that in table-top it just felt like the game drifted further away from its core.

This is a franchise that I should absolutely be eating up, but I haven't been able to generate an ounce of enthusiasm for it in the near 30 years I've been playing it on a PC. How's this newest title on Linux?

It works reasonably well but keep in mind it is opengl so may not look quite as pretty as windows version, also the game has some memory leaks occurring which can creep up on you after a few hours gameplay.

Save-games are compatible with windows btw. It is set in 3025 so there is a limit to what battletech technology is available (unless you use a mod).

Unless heavy metal is like $5, then I won't be too interested in it because it sounds like their taking %25 of the stuff mods added and releasing it as DLC.

To me it sounds like the same old game with a couple of Battletech mods attached to it. We need a whole new scenario and an extended story not just some visual elements and stuff we were already been able to get by modding the game.
