Seriously charming programming puzzler KnotBot is out now

By - | Views: 13,894

KnotBot replaces programming lines with a drag and drop interface to solve puzzles, it's not a unique idea but KnotBot has a wonderful style and setting that make it worth a play.

Note: Copy provided by the developer to our Steam Curator - give us a follow.

Your task is to program and automate the KnotBot through a series of increasingly challenging levels. Starting off with nothing more than simple direction blocks, it soon expands to give you quite a lot more to drag and drop. All of it wrapped up in a seriously sweet and family-friendly design.

When designing your automation, you're given quite a small area to work with for dropping down these instruction blocks. To help with that, and add a little complexity to it at the same time, you're given a a Yarnball which you can use to loop your instructions. It's a fun mix-up of programming ideas, cut down to a simple form that pretty much anyone should be able to handle while enjoying it.

For the extra bonus points to work towards, it starts adding in a move counter. If you manage to stay within it, you will be able to collect all the Golden Socks which will eventually give you an achievement for collecting them all. So for achievement hunters it's a good bit of added entertainment.

It's nowhere near as complicated as something like EXAPUNKS from Zachtronics, it's much more like 7 Billion Humans from Tomorrow Corporation and more recently Selfless Heroes. We've seen it done well a few times now and KnotBot thankfully is just as good and quite inventive with the game mechanics.

Features:

  • Solve Coding problems with knots and yarn-balls instead of text and numbers Everyone can understand it, even if you have no coding knowledge!
  • Play through different areas, each with a unique mechanic to experiment with.
  • Each area contains a series of handcrafted puzzles with cute aesthetic graphics and a relaxing soundtrack.

Taking the basic ideas of programming and turning it into a very charming challenge that keeps you wanting to play more and see what it throws at you next. Don't let the wonderfully inviting style fool you, it does get difficult and might give your brain a workout. You can find KnotBot on Steam.

I'd love if this game was on GOG or Itch, but it's cheap enough that I can probably live with it being chained to Steam. What's annoying with Steam? Well, if I buy the game, I can share the game via Steam with the kids, but while they're playing the game, I can't play ANY of my other Steam games.
