Right now game store itch.io is hosting their first official itch.io Creator Day, where the store gives 100% of the sales back to developers instead of taking a cut. This is not the first time itch.io has done this, as they did so for Black Friday in 2020. Now though, they've confirmed that this is going to be a more regular thing which is why they've slapped an actual name on it.

Developers don't have to do anything, as it's all automatic. Taking a cut from developers has always been a very open point for itch, as developers set the cut they give to itch themselves - there's no forced 30% or 12% or anything here. Note: developers don't entirely get 100% exactly, as there's still taxes and payment processor fees but you get the point.

Here's some quick picks of great Linux-supported games to get from itch:

Check out all the games over on itch.io and see their open source client too.

Got Vintage Story just last month. A few observations. First, you have to make a separate account on the dev's website to run the game. Not a fan of this, but I'll live.

Second, if you'll notice, one of the first sentences on the page is "Vintage Story is an uncompromising wilderness survival sandbox game". Holy shit, do NOT ignore this like I did. Going in thinking this is a Minecraft clone will only leave you disappointed. It's a hardcore survival game, closer to the TerraFirmaCraft mod. It's still fun and very feature-rich even in early access, but casual this is not.

Third, some fiddling may be required for the game to work with the itch launcher, as was the case for me. Regrettably, I forgot what it was I did that made it run, but I think I had to change something in the run.sh file. I may be wrong.

Probably a good idea to report that to the developer and itch, to help make it better ;)

100% to creators? I'm deffo down for that, always. It's just like the Creator Days that Steam never has.

This was the perfect time to get Hive Time!

Said it before, Itch is basically Bandcamp but for games. Good on them for adopting their own version of Bandcamp Fridays.

I thought itch.io was always up to the dev on how much they gave back to itch itself. Did that change?

No change, they're just not accepting any cut from sales on this day as part of an effort to highlight the value of supporting people who make stuff.
