Looks like Valve sent out quite a lot of Steam Deck developer kits

By - | Views: 43,176

You probably heard recently that Valve was readying up Steam Deck developer kits and now we can see that quite a lot of developers have received one. Not just the big lot either, developers of all sorts across the world seem to be getting them and showing them off.

The thing is that for it to be a success, you don't just want the top most played games working well - you want as many as possible across every genre that developers have managed to created. Valve is clearly aware of this of course and you can see that in who they've approved for a Steam Deck dev kit.

Here's a a little round-up bundle of developers / publishers that have been showing off their dev kits:

We could keep going for a while (there's a lot) but hopefully you found this small slice interesting.

It's getting very exciting to see such a huge push and seeing so many developers genuinely excited about it and impressed. Such a completely different world to the old Steam Machines. Hopefully this really will get developers to pay attention to Linux more, although some are likely to only support the Steam Deck specifically. Our reservation is in the Q1 2022 batch so we have to wait a while.

For those that also somehow missed it both Easy Anti-Cheat and BattlEye also recently announced support.

The question to you: what will be the first game you play on the Steam Deck when it arrives? It's a question that seems easy but I've been asking it myself and I'm completely lost.

Quoting: Sojiro84It's a shame they share their video's on twitter.

Their streaming capability is garbage and all I see is 240p resolution video with plenty of compression artifacts because of the video compression.

And Twitter takes forever to load the higher quality but by then it's too late and I already reached the end of the video.

But it IS good to see developers playing around with it.

Indeed, Are hope is they could technically tweak as all the Decks will be the same hardware like they do for consoles. Would also be good for us AMD folk on desktop to boot

Quoting: CorbenFor me the first game to try is probably Everspace 2!
What a surprise, hm?
ERESY!!!
Everspace 2 deserves a BIG *VA monitor with deep blacks in a dark room and why not, ambilight/like leds on his back.

OLED !

Shame we don't have HDR though.

Did any of the developers mention making native games for Steam Deck?

Probably some mindustry, but I would like to use it on the go to try and finish my backlog at some point. I have plenty of half-finished games I could play while traveling:
- Nier: Automata
- Hollow Knight
- Bastion & Transistor

To only name a few.

I like the thought of having a Steam Deck. Next time I have an issue with a game, I can just test on it instead of reporting "I have an issue on Arch Linux" and getting the usual "Unsuported Distro" answer.

QuoteAlso the official X-Plane account showing a shot of it at the beach.
The beach looks obviously faked on a monitor, you can see the pixels and "screen door" (Moiré) effects on the sky.

I think I will try Fallout 4 as one of the first games, too. Gyro controls on the Dualshock 4 controller where a pain to set up for this game. There is an official control scheme, but it is useless, as I couldn't find a way to disable the analog stick acceleration. So I had to remap everything to mouse/keyboard.

I really do hope that many developers put out new/reworked controller schemes that are better aimed at gyro controls. Or at least give us an option to disable stick acceleration.

I've made a Steam Category that I've been adding games to.

First big game will probably be The Outer Worlds, but there's a bunch of emulator games that I really want to play. I want to play Kindom Hearts 1 & 2, Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Paper Mario and the thousand year door, Zelda Skyward Sword HD.

I'm kind of excited to see how Path of Exiles plays on it. I'm hopeful Immortals Fenyx Rising and Genshin Impact are playable.

I'll be doing some platformers like Dead Cells and Carrion, CaveStory+ and hope to find some others like it.

Then there's the jrpg's I've been meaning to finish, Dragon Quest VIII, and Dragon Quest XI.

Black Mesa and Half Life 2 are also on the list

There's a lot on the backlog that I think a more console feel is more likely for me to finish. Play on my lunch break or take to the coffee shop on the weekend.

Quoting: WorMzyLooking at my Steam library, specifically at games with full controller support, I'm leaning towards The Long Dark. Might give Metro Exodus another chance, hopefully I won't get bitten by the Caspian Sea lighthouse glitch and lose all my items again.. Then there's Graveyard Keeper, something which I've been meaning to pick up again...

Caspian Sea bug was still there when I played yesterday. You can get around it by turning your graphics down to medium or low for that part.
