Valve has now officially released the latest version of Proton, the Steam Play compatibility tool that allows Windows games to run on the Steam Deck and Linux desktops. Proton 7.0-2 is the new main stable version, not to be confused with Proton Experimental that was also updated recently.

Here's the games that are newly playable with Proton:

  • Atelier Ayesha
  • Devil May Cry HD Collection
  • Dragon Quest Builders 2
  • A Way Out
  • Fall in Labyrinth
  • King of Fighters XIII
  • Montaro
  • ATRI -My Dear Moments-
  • Guilty Gear Isuka
  • INVERSUS Deluxe
  • Metal Slug 2 and 3 and X
  • One Shot and One Shot: Fading Memory
  • Call of Duty Black Ops 3
  • Saint Seiya: Soldiers' Soul
  • Medieval Dynasty
  • Bright Memory: Infinite
  • Double Dragon Trilogy
  • Baseball Stars 2
  • Elden Ring

Absolutely loads of bug fixes too like Unity games crashing on launch with certain peripherals connected (e.g. Logitech's Unifying Receiver), which is something I helped to discover.

Video playback is a big ongoing issue as lots of games use patent encumbered video codecs but work continues to get more supported with these now having working videos: Atelier Meruru, Cook-out, DJMAX RESPECT V, Gloomhaven, Haven, Rust, Rustler, The Complex, TOHU, Monster Train, Hardspace: Shipbreaker, Car Mechanic Simulator 2021, Nine Sols Demo.

Many other games had bug fixes like: The Last Campfire not starting on the Steam Deck, DiRT Rally 2 and DiRT 4 not being able to connect to the game server, STAR WARS Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy not displaying anything on the Steam Deck, Assassin's Creed Odyssey displaying an unsupported driver warning in the overlay and more.

On top of all that the Direct3D to Vulkan translation layer DXVK was updated to version 1.10.1 and VKD3D-Proton to version 2.6. DXVK-nvapi (an NVAPI implementation on top of DXVK) was updated to version 0.5.3.

Great to see such big updates to Proton but the work never stops, as keeping up with Windows compatibility is something that will need to continue to be updated for a long time. For games that Valve has run through Deck Verified, they pick either the Native Linux version or the version of Proton needed for it to work. For games not yet tested by Valve, it will default to Proton 7 (until a later Proton release becomes the main stable version) but you can set whatever you want and you can see how in our guide video.

It will come down as a normal update in Steam like anything else.

I was wondering why The Last Campfire was "unsupported", it was working fine on my Deck, I played it through to completion (from a previous save). Guess I know now!

I just threw my money at Gabe! So soon I will no longer be Deckless!

hmm, I recall black ops 3 being playable for some time. Black ops 2 still needs some love as it is hindered by CEG.

I just figured I'd take a moment to say 'Congrats, Liam!' if you aren't getting name dropped directly, gamingonlinux.com certainly is in random videos about the Steam Deck.

Does DMC Collection work with cutscenes too? I just played Onimisha Warlords and had to use an old version of Proton GE to get the game running.

I want the GE version of this....

Give him some days, there will be one soon. As usual it will take him some days until new/next release of GE-Proton after Proton gets updated since he needs to apply his own patches/patch-sets.

Edit:
But since this is a stable release from previous experimental and GE always uses Proton experimental as a base, this Proton release is already available from GE as/since GE-Proton7-11.

Proton Experimental (as of 2022/03/31), a few days later GE-Proton7-11 Released with "proton experimental bleeding edge wine build has been updated"

Most reports seem to indicate that it's playable but unstable. Limiting it to 48fps seems to make it less prone to crashing. I suppose it's worth a try if you already own the game, but seems like a risky purchase.
