Serious Sam 4 gained a Steam Deck Verified rating recently, which is in part thanks to the developer pushing out a small but significant patch for the game. It was listed in the recent post on Steam Deck hitting 3,000 titles either Playable or Verified.

While it's not a Native Linux version like their previous titles, seeing another developer actively support their game in Proton to give a good experience on Linux and Steam Deck is great.

In the recent patch notes the developer stated: "Hey everyone! As you have noticed we released a small, but notable update for Serious Sam 4. The update is focused on performance and game stability, new GPU support and most importantly the game now has a Steam Deck support".

How does it run on Steam Deck though? Let's take a quick look:

In short: not great. Playable but frequent hard-drops down, even below 30FPS at times and the frame timing is messy. Seems they still have plenty of work to do on optimizing Serious Sam 4.

You can buy it on Humble Store and Steam.

Assuming the meters are right:
Cpu and gpu seems lower than 100, weird, where's the bottleneck then?
It would be interesting to know if under windows it performs the same.
Differently it sould be a proton thing.

Edit:
seems a common thing for gpu.

Probably it is also taxing one cpu thread too heavy.

Considering how extremely well the past titles' native version ran, this still is nowhere near a state i would consider paying more than 5 bucks in a sale for...
Just a real shame considering their previous track record...

Well It looked pretty smooth to me. I guess the steam deck is more powerful than my old PC.

No, Needs Proton.

I'll pass!

They did a cracking job with the others on their new engine too.
