Hunt: Showdown added Easy Anti-Cheat for Steam Deck & Linux

By - | Views: 41,070

While no announcement from the developer has been made yet, Hunt: Showdown now has the Easy Anti-Cheat file needed and works on Steam Deck and Linux Desktop.

This is one I certainly didn't expect to start working. However, since there's been no announcement, it could stop working in future. EAC doesn't just get added and turned on like this by accident though.

For the Steam Deck, it actually works surprisingly well too and even looks pretty good on Low details. To ensure it works, make sure you have installed the Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime from your Steam Library. As it may not be automatically installed and you won't have it unless you've installed something else that did have it automatically set on it.

As for Desktop Linux, my testing has been on Fedora KDE 37 and it has been a pretty great experience there too. Setting everything up to High on the various presets, using a 1440p resolution with my AMD Ryzen 5800x plus NVIDIA 2080 Ti it's been quite smooth, apart from the usual expected shader cache dips while it gets built up and eventually becomes fully smooth.

I've been generally seeing 90+FPS with everything on High. It runs really very nicely.

You can buy it on Steam. Not a recommendation yet though though due to the mentioned issue of it not being formally announced but thought you would like to know and see it running.

So some notes about your footage. You were playing "bounty hunt" which by default is 12 players with teams of up to 3. You can opt out of trios if you have a second but you were basically signing yourself up for pain there.

Quick play is the more typical solo "battle royale" style game mode.

(Hunt: Showdown is my favorite multiplayer game and this was the last game keeping my Windows partition alive)

I know there are some cases when the developer didn't announce EAC Proton support, but actually added the support quietly. The game Crossout is such example. I found 2 EAC .so files in the game directory along EAC .dll files, but the developer didn't make any announcement.

That makes hope!
I'll wait some time though. An official announcement would be ideal of course.

This was the last thing keeping my desktop from being windows free.
Average fps is a bit lower but it feels a lot smoother(really weird). But there sometimes is a lot of texture pop in which can be a bit annoying, but other than that it plays great.( just waiting for HDR support)

FWIW, it's on sale on Steam right now.

It only works
Because CryTek are lazy bastards and this happened by mistake. They'll remove the file & the support soon enough.
