Good news for fans of DRM free gaming and GOG store users, as Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition is now available although it doesn't support Creation Club.
You can easily download games from GOG on Linux with the Heroic Games Launcher. It makes setting up Wine / Proton really easy for games like this too. GOG also have the Fallout 4 - High Resolution Texture Pack to add into it.
Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition includes the base game and all the following add-ons:
- Far Harbor - A new case from Valentine’s Detective Agency leads you on a search for a young woman and a secret colony of synths. Travel off the coast of Maine to the mysterious island of Far Harbor, where higher levels of radiation have created a more feral world.

Anyway, on a somewhat unrelated note, I am hoping to start a playthrough of the VR re-release, which isn't on GOG anyway. Just want to point out the obvious, if you already have the base game, if Skyrim VR is anything to go by, the VR re-release is worth 0% of its asking price, so grab it as cheap as possible and support the modders instead.

This price makes it pretty tempting to me. Not a huge fan of Bethesda's Fallout but I've had my eye on it and I'm sure I can get ten bucks worth of fun from it.

I've not got to 4 yet (still on 3, to be followed by New Vegas) but the reviews on Steam seem to overwhelmingly point to NOT installing the hi-res texture DLC as it causes too much instability (added bonus - disk space and download time savings).

This was an instant-buy for me. Called my buddies too and they bought as well.
This means that the entire Fallout/Elder Scrolls library is available DRM free on GOG. No online steam requirement to play them. Combine this with Nobara and you can enjoy these without having to include valve at all on steam deck. I will have to test fallout 4 on it with my setup, but everything else has been a dream.

That is quite a good deal for a fun game. I particularly enjoyed the Far Harbor DLC. The Creation Club interface available in Steam is a rather nice way to find and install mods but if you've used Nexus before I doubt anyone would have too many problems with mods.

Yes the story is lacking, but the shooting/looting/building mechanics and the settlement defense mini game is a lot of fun.
Some of the reviews on GOG seem to be due to wrong expectations. Anyone who played Skyrim before Fallout 4 knew what was coming: The focus is on the side quests – explicit or implicit ones.
And calling it garbage Fallout is difficult – what is Fallout? Fallout 1/2 have little in common with Tactics and all of them have little in common with 3 and NV – and even those have a large difference in quality of the main quests.
I've bought the game on Steam after a free weekend – see, demos get people to buy stuff – I probably wouldn't have bought it otherwise due to the misleading reviews.
I still haven't completed the main storyline, but most of the side quests. The main quests aren't that interesting and quite frankly after you have so much freedom with the side quests it's weird that you have to really choose a side to finish the game.

I've had that on Steam since it came out. It's a nice game. After years of just wandering around in a finished game periodically (there are still things to do to get XP and there's no level cap). I finally removed it to get my disk space back (my 2Tb NVME drive is prime real estate, it's always almost full of games with maybe 100G to spare)
For $13 (and GoG doesn't charge tax where they don't have to) I rebought it for when I want to install it again. Probably soon, it's been a while since I've seen it now.
Add another to the list of rebought games, I much prefer having games in GoG standalone installer format with no gate keepers. I have much more control over the environment that way.

For starters its NOT optimized which should be obvious given the size. There are mods on nexus that do a better job.
Secondly it can cause issues with other graphical mods such as face texture mods etc..
The hi-res DLC has a lot of ultra high resolution normal maps that don't help things except make everything larger. Again, investigate nexus for mods that improve the pack or replace it for a better experience.
Lastly FO4 is getting a Next-Gen update sometime soon (unless Todd lied to us), so playing it now may be premature!

Worked like a charm in a Lutris wine prefix with my Wine-TKG and my saves were compatible with the GOTY Edition (I bought all the DLC as it came out). I dropped them in before starting it for the first time and it didn't miss a beat, all graphics settings in place etc. I'd start a new playthrough, but it would suck too much to not have my godly weapons and player level (82 lol) and stuff. I suppose I could just start a new game and spawn whatever I want at the console.
I don't actually have any mods, but I should do that now. I'm sure there's lots of nifty stuff.
Even in a finished game, as I exhaust just about everything else to do, there's always one quest I can take over and over that scales. It sends me to usually an interesting place, repopulated with enemies where I have to find a captured synthetic. In an open world game, all I need is something to set a waypoint for.
This game doesn't owe me any money, I've got 171 hours into it on Steam and about to get some more after being away from it :-)
