We're reaching the end-game now Wine fans, the time for Wine 9.0 to release is quickly approaching with a second Release Candidate now available.

Currently the project is in a code-freeze, during this time no new features will make it in while the developers focus on bug-fixing for the Windows compatibility layer.

33 bugs were noted as solved including issues for EA Desktop, The Settlers: Heritage of Kings, Waves Central, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, Hitomi Downloader, Dolphin Emulator and various miscellaneous fixes affecting numerous different applications and games.

The Wine 9.0 stable release is due out in January. Some time next year Valve will likely rebase Proton to use Wine 9.0.

Additionally related, the Direct3D 12 to Vulkan layer VKD3D-Proton released version 2.11.1 which includes:

  • Implement COLOR -> STENCIL fallback copy on NVIDIA.
  • Implement SM 6.6 ResourceDescriptorHeap[] + UAV counters correctly on RADV.
  • Fix bugged implementation of DXBC resinfo instruction, affecting Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
  • Fix memory type used for DGC preprocess memory on NVIDIA (~5% performance, YMMV).
  • Fix crash in Callisto Protocol when booting game with DXR support.

More complete MSAA resolve implementation

  • Add depth-stencil resolve.
  • Support typeless formats.
  • Add MIN/MAX resolve modes.
  • Implement missing code paths on NVIDIA.

Workarounds

  • Update workaround for GPU hang in CP77 when using DXR for patch 2.1.
  • Remove workaround for NO_DGCC in Halo Infinite on NVIDIA.
  • Workaround game bug in Pioneers of Pagonia causing GPU hangs on RADV.

this wine version in my case using dead rising 2 seems loss performance compared 9.0-rc1 (in both cases stay recording and with a trainer active)

9.0-rc1 Staging

9.0-rc2 Vanilla

However xaudio dont work correctly in some places like platinum strip and bigger areas (ambiental audio loss sometimes) and overrides in my case dont work too

would have been nice to have a proper battle.net fix for the cef crash.

Wine Wayland bits are in usable shape there. Can anyone with Sway/wlroots please test if you have the periodic halved refresh rate bug in it?

That was quick. I usually don't waste my time with early access titles, but oh the memories playing the original Settlers on the Amiga, in split-screen two-player mode no less!

So good to know Pioneers will be playable, should I give in to temptation ...

If that can fix UbisoftConnect because still not working... wish it would work also for Origin

Oh, hey, Hitomi Downloader, that's nice. One of my favorite video downloaders back on Windows, it was pretty annoying when it didn't run on Wine (at least, I don't think it worked right on Wine).
