Ocean adventure game Sail Forth from Festive Vector and The Quantum Astrophysicists Guild released back in December 2022, and it just got a big free upgrade with more to come.

The developers announced the free update that's now available does away with boundaries between locations and loading screens, with the Open Seas update bringing the game to a fully open world. This includes a big redesign to the world map generation to further improve the exploration, along with a new Deep Blue ocean biome between areas with its own soundtrack, island generation was reworked to give locations a bit more personality and many more tweaks.

Additionally there's a paid expansion planned to release January 11th called Sail Forth: Maelstrom that will add in new areas to explore, new enemies, exclusive Maelstrom cosmetics, and a new NPC + associated shop. This will come along with another free update adding in the ship cosmetic system, a new Skull Clan encounter, and many other changes and fixes. DLC Features:

  • Sail Forth: Maelstrom - Brave the Vortexes! - Dive headfirst into the heart of the storm with the Sail Forth Maelstrom expansion! A tempest has swept across the Deepblue, bringing forth colossal vortexes that promise unparalleled challenges and untold treasures. Are you ready to face the Maelstrom?
  • Meet the Arcane Order - The Maelstrom is watched over by mysterious guardians who offer strange new rewards to sailors willing to risk charting the depths of the Underworld. In exchange for much-coveted Maelstrom Pearls, the Arcane Order is willing to offer everything from ancient weaponry to custom cosmetics.
  • Beware the Wormkin - The Maelstrom introduces a host of menacing adversaries that will test your sailing prowess and combat skills. The Underworld does not easily tolerate interlopers. Do not linger, or the Wormkin may claim your fleet.
  • Expanded Vessel Customization - Express yourself with the brand new ship cosmetic system, adding dozens of decorative items that can be fitted to the vessels in your fleet.
  • Sail Forth into the Unknown - Continue your nautical adventure with Maelstrom, where the call of the vortexes beckons you to uncharted waters. Will you return to the light, or be swallowed by the abyss?
  • Sail Forth has Native Linux support and it is Steam Deck Playable.

Available to buy on Steam.

FYI if anyone wants to try the game via Heroic/proton, it seems Sail Forth will be the next week's free game on Epic Store (11-18 Jan). And btw right now the giveaway is Guardians of the Galaxy.

Not that Epic matters much for the linux ecossystem, I though there might be at least someone interested here.

Yup, while I heavily encourage everyone on Linux to buy on Steam and support the platform that gives us at least some priority... If you are pressed for money, Epic Games Store freebies are a good way to enjoy some good games. And Heroic Games Launcher is a terrific way to enjoy EGS and GOG games.
