LEGO 2K Drive is getting delisted soon and servers will shut down

Who cares about preserving the works of all the people that work on video games right? LEGO 2K Drive is another that's about to vanish forever.

Released back in 2023, it's only a few days off its third birthday. Three years, that's apparently a reasonable time for a game to entirely cut off any online function support. They aren't even giving a reason on why this is happening, but presumably it's another licensing issue since this is a LEGO game. We've seen many games delisted over the years when limited licenses expire.

The Steam page for the game was recently silently updated to note:

This product will no longer be available for purchase as of 05/19/2026.

NOTE: All multiplayer servers for LEGO® 2K Drive will be shutdown as of 05/31/2027. After that time, all game functions requiring online servers will no longer function.

Another reason could be plain and simply profitability. The game never really hit it big with less than 1,800 user reviews in total on Steam. And it only hit an all-time peak concurrent player count of 1,039. Probably didn't help that they tried some sort of live-service silliness with it and added micro-transactions. It had a pretty mixed rating overall.

At least in this case, it might still be playable offline but it still stings to see more games just shuttered like this. Yet another case for the California Protect Our Games Act and Stop Killing Games.

Take-Two strikes again? Regardless of the reasons for this, they remain relentlessly greedy scum.
