SteamOS 3.7.18 Beta "Old Enough to Vote" was released by Valve today, bringing in a few more fixes for some annoying sounding issues. In case you live under a rock we're also getting some new SteamOS systems with the Steam Frame and Steam Machine you should go and read up on.

As it's a Beta you'll need to change your system updates channel to test it, or just wait for Valve to roll it out for the next stable SteamOS Linux release. You can change it via Settings > System > System Update Channel. The most recent stable update is SteamOS 3.7.17 from early November.

What's changed? See below:

  • Fixed the performance overlay sometimes showing zero for CPU power draw.
  • Fixed audio not always switching to/from 3.5mm headphones correctly when inserted or removed.
  • Fixed a regression where certain in-game overlay UI elements could cause a frame time drop upon appearing.
  • Fixed the frame limiter interacting badly with VRR after an extended period.
  • Fixed an issue where Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Horizon 5 would only display a blank window.

On top of that we also only just recently finally saw the release of Proton 10, to bring even better game compatibility to SteamOS machines and Linux desktop systems.

I hope this fixes the problem I've had woth notifications and overlay menus dropping frames cause mine has been doing thatva ton.
I use a trackpad menu for emulators and I get all the hitching when my paml brushes the trackpad or anytime I wanna control rewinds and fast forwards.
Certainly an annoying issue though minor.
