Bash Moto is an upcoming 90s themed beat 'em up motorcycle racing game

Welcome back, Road Rash. An indie developer is reviving the classic beat'em up motorcycle racing game with Bash Moto - and it looks worth keeping an eye on. As the developer said, "EA abandoned Road Rash, so I'm making my own".

Road Rash was probably one of my first gaming loves, playing through endless hours of it on the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis back when I was young. Nice to see some other developers have memories fond enough to make their own spin on it again.

It's still in development, with a hopeful plan to have it released before the end of 2026. Check out their debut trailer for it below:

From the Steam page:

Tear up the streets in this 90s themed beat'em up motorcycle racing game. Kick and bash your way through a slew of roughneck bikers all trying to claim victory and the cash prize. Competition isn't the only danger, the local police will be hot on your tail.

Enjoy the great sense of speed as you wind down the many long roads of the American west coast. Watch out for the many vehicles, pedestrians and street obstacles that will just slow you down or send you flying! One too many hits on your rider or bike may end your race. Run out of money to repair your bike or bail out of jail and it's game over!

After the race is over, head back at your favourite bar to mingle with your fellow bikers to mingle or take on the next race. Having a hard claiming 1st place? Take your hard earned cash to the bike shop next door. Get rid of that junker and buy yourself a new bike to keep up with the pack or leave them in your dust.

Bash Moto features easy pick up and play controls, a stylistic 2D aesthetic and a unique race on rails feeling reminiscent of classic bike racing games from the past.

Will the name be Powershell Moto and Zsh Moto in Windows and macOS?

Edit: Yes, I know one can have Powershell and Zsh on Linux, and the other way around for Bash. Just let me do a crappy joke, will ya? 😝

Wow, yes! Hours spent on Road Rash on PC, I can still hear the thunk of the police baton as you wallop the competition. No motorcycle emoji available but here's a donut for no particular reason at all. 🍩

I too have a lot of fond memories of Road Rash. Split-screen multiplayer. Played it on the Sega Genesis with my coworkers whenever there were no customers -- or the boss -- in the store. Product knowledge, you know...

Road Rash versions vary widely. The Sega Saturn, Sega Genesis, and Sega CD versions are probably the most noteworthy. The Saturn release is the 3DO version, but vastly improved. They render their graphics in similar ways, with the Saturn being more powerful. While the Sega CD version is the Genesis version, but with the CD quality audio and FMVs from the "next-gen" versions. Rusty Cage by Soundgarden is a fitting song for the opening FMV too. lol

Ah, the cringey 90's live action intro! Will the developer deliver!?
