Dude (i assume you're a dude, right?), please show me a single government that has enforced "forced acceptance", or where the more conservative to far-right were so completely singled out of the public debate as you're trying to portray. i'll wait.Great Britain
Quoting: eggroleCould we get real? You can say a lot about what "people" have been saying. But we are talking here about what's often called the alt-right; people like MAGA in the US, Reform in Britain, Alternativ fur Deutschland in Germany (who are actual Nazis) and so on. Those people have not been saying "hey, maybe all this immigration isn't a good idea."Quoting: Purple Library GuyFor the last 10 or so years people have been saying "hey, maybe all this immigration isn't a good idea." They have made points that one might agree or disagree with, but it was their position. And that entire time the governments and the opposing parties have said to them, resoundingly, "STFU, Nazi, Racist, Bigot!" (as also seen in some post in this very thread).Quoting: eggroleExtremism is created when there is a lack of communicationNo it isn't. Different political camps never communicated much and probably never will. Extremism is created when the system as it is fails to meet the needs of large and increasing numbers of people,
They have been saying immigrants are all rapists, or terrorists, or drug dealers. That they're eating the cats. That they are shiftless unemployed living off government handouts of "our" taxpayers' money, and simultaneously stealing "our" jobs. That their religions and cultures are evil and worthless. They have been saying gays are or have a plot to undermine Western civilization and plunge the world into chaos. They have been saying teachers who treat trans and gay people decently are pedophile groomers. They have been saying natural disasters are caused by there being too many atheists, or whatever other sort of non-evangelical-christian peeves them at the moment. They have been saying that "liberals" who favour rights for immigrants, or gays, or trans, or non-whites, or lately even women, are traitors who should be jailed or executed. And leftists, like, say, me, it's way worse--they call us filth, a poison or a disease and say we should be massacred, wiped out, expunged like a stain. I was just looking at some right wing Americans' reactions to Trump starving the people of Cuba--they're freakin' jubilant, because Cubans are Communists. And the alt-right have consistently refused to ever apologize for any of the vile, libelous crap they have spewed. And of course they've shot up mosques, and synagogues, and tried to assassinate the Prime Minister of Canada, and generally done a whole lot of violence against the people they have dehumanized. It is clear from the beginnings of it with ICE in the US that they would do plenty more such violence given the chance.
All that, and you want me to talk about them as if they are reasonable people with minor differences on the subject of high levels of immigration? Fuck that. They want me dead, for one thing. That's not a very minor difference.
You may be willing to have a reasonable discussion of the roots of these people's views. But they sure aren't. And you want me to go to these people whose whole deal is hate, hostility and complete refusal to engage or compromise in any way, and talk sweet compromise with them and say their hostility is all centrists' and leftists' fault for not being nice to them. Nonsense. And I gotta ask you, do you go to the social media rabbit holes of this stuff and tell them "For 10 years, liberal people and immigrants have been saying "hey, maybe we should just treat human beings like human beings"" and ask them "say have you ever just talked to the liberals and leftists and immigrants and gays?" I'd be willing to bet that no, you don't. The compromising is only supposed to go one way. And that way is on the backs of people whose rights and lives don't in their opinion matter like a real person's.
And in point of fact, "liberals" such as the UK Labour party or the US Democrats have been compromising with these people and explaining away all the things they do and say, and adopting far too many of their ideas. Has this caused them to get less angry? No it has not. It has just encouraged them to go further. Your call for civility is in the end just a call for surrender by stages. And that might fly with liberals, but I'm not a liberal.
Anyone else who's been saying "Oh but the problem is we aren't being nice enough to the fascists" can take this as a response to them too.
Quoting: Purple Library Guy[snip...]This is what you get when Purple Library Guy get angry and rightly so: a masterclass. ❤️
Anyone else who's been saying "Oh but the problem is we aren't being nice enough to the fascists" can take this as a response to them too.
I would just add, we perfectly know the tactics of the far-right and confusion of ideas is one of them...
And also putting their ideas at the same level of the far-left like "it's extremism either way" is so wrong and dangerous, it shows a profound lack of culture and history.
How many people I heard confusing the two is so heartbreaking, these politics (and big Digital/Social Networks corps participating too) know exactly what they're doing.
[joke]Liam, I tried to add 100 Likes to his post but I can't get it work. Is this a bug? Can you check it out? 🤔 [/joke]
Quoting: eggroleThese were middle of the road people with concerns that have largely been proven true. Housing prices have increased not only because of reckless fiscal policies, but because there are literally more people competing for the same houses. They are _many_ empty housing around here, many houses that are empty except for 2 months/year, or flats that are only available to rent by the week (I live near the coast). Yet according to the far-right at our municipal elections last week this would be caused by immigrants: that's pure out-of-nowhere bullshit.
Quoting: eggroleRape gangs in Europe (again I am not well versed) seem like they are far too common - and the demographics are clear. Not common AFAICT. My Asian-typed wife has certainly had more issues with European-typed people than any other population groups. Sample of 1 I know, but certainly better than “I am not well versed” sample of 0.
BTW how can you say that the “demographics are clear” and that you are “not well versed” in the same sentence??? Do you realize how biased and ultimately racist that is?
Quoting: eggrolePublic services are being spread thinner, again because (among possible other reasons) there are more people to service.Without immigration our population would actually decrease. The state is encouraging us to make more babies and will send all 29-yo a letter about this this summer. In fact the far-right are the main ones urging people to make more babies. So that's not the issue being public services. It only shows some people value French-born babies higher than immigrants…
That also invalidates the point about population increase being the issue with housing BTW.
Quoting: eggroleIn the USA we are seeing investigation after investigation on fraud that is often done by migrants (though all fraud should be dealt with, this isn't a migrant issue really until you look at the demographics).Good for you if the biggest fraud is by the groups of people with the less income! (Sorry I can help but being sarcastic on that point.)
Around here the prime example would probably be Google et al not paying their taxes as they should, and Ireland being complicit. Then comes to mind [this](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Front_assistants_affair) affair about our main far-right party getting people employed by the European Parliament but not actually working there.
Again the biggest frauders are often the people/companies with the biggest incentive to fraud: people moving more money around.
Quoting: voxAlso I was under the impression that this site's position was somewhat apolitical. To paraphrase the best surrealist Spanish film of all time; "I am apolitical. On the right, like my father all his life." [Amanece que no es poco](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dawn_Breaks,_Which_Is_No_Small_Thing)
I've put the above because your nickname is the same as the current biggest far-right party in Spain.
Being "apolitical" does not exist. Every single action carries political weight, and if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
Quoting: voxGreat BritainLOL. Do you have any real information?
Quoting: eggroleWhat's the old saying: if you make peaceful revolution impossible, you make violent revolution inevitable?Revolutions ARE violent. You picking on racialized people is NOT a revolution.
Quoting: eggroleThere are plenty of people today that see the forced acceptance of your ideas as "the man", particularly when the governments of the world seem to enforce these views...Even if this were true, which it isn't, let's do a little imagination game.
The government enforcing equal rights to LGBTQ+ and racialized people does not hurt anyone.
The government cutting mental health support, transitioning opportunities and acceptance of refugees, kills people.
The government investing in Palantir, ICE and the military, kills people.
The government funding medical, educational and infrastructure services, saves people.
Quoting: eggroleRape gangs in EuropeAre these the [gang rapes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Manada_rape_case) you refer to?
They are all Spanish, and one of them a member of the Civil Guard (Military police).
And if anything on the above didn't make it clear; I'm here for the Chiapas and Rojavas of the world. To stand with the Mapuches, the Berbers and Inuits. To support Cubans, Palestinians and Iranians. To align with the Irish and Basque.
Fuck being nice to Fascists and Nazis. Fuck capitalist policies that enable racism, neo-colonialism and neo-imperialism.
