I just tried it myself and sadly I still have the dark ground. Maybe I made something wrong while applying the patch or it doesn't fix it for my setup.

Is there something special to consider regarding the "dark ground fix-patch" or did you just simply apply it? I will try it once again and then commit the bug report.

I imagine that you need both the sample_c_lz hack and this patch.

I added all [recommended patches](https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=34698#notes) including sample_c_lz hack.

I simply applied it, after applying needed staging patches listed in the howto. May be with Nvidia, something doesn't work? Can you please post your findings in the bug, describing exactly what you did?

Did exactly that, and patch applied without error. However, like ardorhb, this did not fix the issue at all for me :-(.

Okay, it's night (again), but the road definitely shouldn't look pitch-black :-).

There must be some Nvidia blob specific differences then. Hopefully Józef will dig into it.

The odd thing is that according to this post, it ought to work for nVidia blob too. Maybe there's a conflict with one of the staging patches? Wonder how @malek69 did his build?

May be it conflicts with the patch that fixes another Nvidia specific issue? Try skipping wined3d-Copy_Resource_Typeless patch.

That was kind of my suspicion too. I'll give it a go tomorrow. Won't be able to get near my PC tonight, however. (But I also added my 2 cents to the wine bug, so perhaps this sheds some light on the issue too).

1. use wine master(2.13 not work for me)
2. add dark fix
3. ./patches/patchinstall.sh DESTDIR=$"../wine-2.13" ntdll-Grow_Virtual_Heap wined3d-buffer_create wined3d-sample_c_lz wined3d-1DTextures wined3d-Copy_Resource_Typeless xaudio2-get_al_format from 2.13 staging

Using latest wine from the github mirror, which should hopefully make no big difference. I had applied the fix last initially, but even changing the order does not change the result. (And it shouldn't; as long as the patch applies successfully, order should be irrelevant)

Which version of the nVidia driver are you using? I'm still on 375.66, though no idea if newer versions have any relevant improvements.

Anyway, thanks for the information. Glad it works for you :-).

I use 384.59 which should be the latest and - like I already mentioned - still have the bug. So the difference between malek69 and our setup most be something else.

The bug is fixed for me as well with the same driver and a 980ti.

@scix had the [missing clue](https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43239#c13): delete the MaxVersionGL registry key (or make sure its value is correct!).

With that change and the same binary as before, the scene I posted before now looks correct:

Next thing to fix: [some surfaces are missing](https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43131)! While those are relatively minor glitches, and few, they do spoil the presence of caves and hidden areas, and thus lessen the fun of exploring and discovering those things on ones own.

For me the hard freeze is the worst blocker now.

Now Witcher 3 looks great.

Sounds like an unreported bug. Can you open one please?
