Title: GOTY + More
Liam Dawe 28 Dec 2017
Hello everyone, hope you're all well!
This week actual game news has been very light due to tiny releases and the festive period. However, I'm mostly back to work on GamingOnLinux now! The quiet period doesn't mean I'm doing nothing though, far from it!

Today (oh crap it's past midnight), I am soft-launching our GOTY award for nominations. You guys are getting to have a peek first :)
It's very different (code-wise) to previous years and took me two days to get fixed up, didn't help that I had a power cut today, oh well!
It will only let you add games/projects that exist in our database, so this way we can prevent people spelling things about a million different ways to mess things up like the last two years...
That does come with one drawback: if it's not in our database, it cannot be nominated. So, I spent another two hours hooking up a quick submissions system (the link is below the submission box) or you can email us (the other link).

On top of that, the Free Games page now has a link (if you're logged in) to allow you to suggest tags for games.
I've got a big list of games people have sent me, which I'm gradually going over and adding in, which I shall continue to do so tomorrow (as it's super late now), in case some of them people want to nominate for the GOTY. Even with the stuff I have left to add in, the free games page has well over 250, you're sure to find something interesting on it! :)

Let me know any bugs you find and anything that's not quite right.

On the GOTY page, would you consider changing "your favourite Linux game released in 2017" to "your favourite games released for Linux in 2017"? That would make it clearer that games are eligible even if they were released for other operating systems earlier. Unless I'm wrong about that.

Also, could you possibly filter out DLC for the categories where they are not valid? And filter out everything else for the DLC category I guess.

Sure, the description change makes sense. I have adjusted that.

I will look to adjust the picker for DLC/Non-DLC, but that might take a while and it's low priority compared to getting the rest solid, that's in the "nice to have" list :)

I tried to add a few DLCs, but I can't add anything that is not in the database.

If we are missing something, there's a link directly below the box to submit it to us :)

Apparently it is too late to read.

I'll start adding stuff.

Hah, no problem :)...not like I spent a few hours coding that feature specifically for this or anything while sick  just kidding, thanks for helping out. I just approved the few you sent in, I'm happy it seems to be working nicely :D

1200 new games, 920 new DLC. Choosing will be a problem. Linux has come quite a way. :D

Could you elaborate a bit on what "released in 2017" means? Does that include early access games that go to final release? If that is the case, should EA not be considered released? Also, what about remastered versions? Especially those that don't really change the original game like "Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition"?
Liam Dawe 31 Dec 2017
If its in early access, we have a category specifically for that.

If it left early access - thats a full new release.

Remastered releases count as a fresh release. Especially for us, as that will often mean its entirely new for us.

What do you mean? When an EA game is released, it's not in EA any more. There's a category for promising Early Access games after all. I understand your confusion, but it's not really that complicated.

If there was an official re-release or remaster, published for Linux during 2017, I think it should be eligible.

EDIT: Too slow. Although I could have sworn Liam tweeted something like "Right, that's me done on @gamingonlinux for 2017, will be back in 2018 (Monday)". :P

You know me by now, being done mainly means articles - plenty more to do :D
