Linux - Gaming Keyboard and Mouse?
wolfyrion Apr 24, 2018
So my old gaming keyboard got a bit rusty and I am looking for a replacement
I know that all devices pretty much will work under Linux for basic functionality.

I am thinking to buy something that fully supports Linux with RGB fancy keys and so on.

I dont know if corsair or Razer fully support Linux yet.

Also on AUR there is a package ckb-next which supports corsair devices. (i dont know which ones)

Anyway if you have any good recommendations for a keyboard and mouse let me know, price doesnt matter.

Thanks!

Roccat. a bit expensive but basically has all the features on their opensource drivers.

I have Roccat Ryos MK Pro and Roccat KoneXTD laser mouse, i can make combo key combinations between those devices, use macros ofc, bind everything, change RGB and so on.

You'd need Roccat Ryos MK FX though for RGB as the PRO i have only has blue lights.

Didnt Roccat fired their Linux developer?

Fired? he never worked under Roccat. He was a freelancer. Roccat just sent some new hardware and helped with some documentation afaik.

and those drivers still work, i dunno hows the situation with the new device support.

After investigating a bit I found that most of the Corsair products are working fine with Linux using CKB-NEXT

https://github.com/ckb-next/ckb-next/wiki/Supported-Hardware

So I will go with

1.Corsair K95 Platinum RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (Cherry MX Brown Switches, Per Key Multicolour RGB Backlighting, Dual-Sided Soft Touch Wrist Rest, UK Layout) - Black

2. Corsair M65 Pro RGB Optical FPS Gaming Mouse (12,000 DPI Optical Sensor, 8 Programmable Buttons, RGB Multicolour Lighting, Adjustable Weights) - Black

3. Corsair mm800C RGB Polaris Cloth Surface Mousepad (15 Zone RGB Lighting, Textile-Weave Cloth Surface, Built-In USB Pass-through Port, 400 mm x 340 mm x 35 mm) - Black

I have a Razer Mamba Tournament Edition as a mouse and a Razer BlackWidow Chroma V2 (yellow switch) as a keyboard (as well as a Razer Kraken 7.1 V2) and they are all working fine with some controls (LED effects, mouse dpi etc.) enabled by OpenRazer and Polycromatic! :)

Hey! Not sure if this is still useful, but here is my two sense for anyone who comes across this:

Avoid anything that requires software for its features (I mean really...its kinda ridiculous to HAVE to install addition software FOR MY MOUSE).

For mice this is pretty easy since most don't go overboard on the RGB stuff. I personally prefer Zowie mice (BenQ), but that is completely imho.

https://zowie.benq.com/en/product/mouse.html

For keyboards, there are a LOT available that do everything corsair/razer/roccatt do, ONBOARD. Macros+programable keys+invidual RGB keys+Mechanical.

For instance:
https://www.amazon.com/Ducky-Mechanical-Keyboard-Black-Cherry/dp/B0714M18VY

No software, it works. It will care your settings to any PC you plug it into because everything is done onboard. I personally use a Vortex Pok3r.

I have just received today my corsair set and I am very happy with it ^_^

Everything is working fine under Linux and especially with the CKB application from AUR you can change/modify EVERYTHING you desire on all corsair products , from lighting ,animations, macros etc.

I have big thin hands and I think the keyboard is very suitable for my hands , but if you have FAT hands I think you may have a bit of a problem.

I was wrong.

Anything else is inferior.

I am a simpleton.
