Yes, I think it should.

Did you check in the settings that the FPS are not capped ? I think it is by default, I set it to 180 to use Gsync (along with turning Vsync off).

Otherwise, in the display settings, I removed Blur and Depth field, as I don't like those settings in general. Since the game is only in early state, maybe they are part of your FPS issues ?

I played arround with all these options. But none of them, seem to change a lot. I tried it with the new ProtonGE Version. Got like 5 fps more but still not playable.
