I got a magazine with a short article promoting giving a try at creating your own Linux distro from "scratch." The idea above is what I thought of.
What do you think?
While there could be a benefit to having gaming-directed packages pre-installed (things like Steam, mangohud, Piper, and that kernel module that gives better force feedback for steering wheels), we could do with fewer tiny and difficult-to-maintain niche distros rather than more; it would be a better use of resources to campaign for the inclusion of those packages in a distro that already exists and is already well maintained.
I bet no one's ever tried that before! /sarcasm Do you really think one of the big players are going to put their name on bleeding edge packages and maybe have to create and maintain a separate build & test pipeline? The reason there are so many different distros is because of small or large disagreements, and so splits happen, just like denominations within the same religion.
No, it doesn't. They all perform the same, and they all have the same software available.
Ah, yes, Steam and mangohud. So very, very bleeding edge.
