Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter is now available on the Fusion engine with Vulkan
By Feist, 6 April 2017 at 2:16 pm UTC

Thanks for the update! I would have probably missed this otherwise. All the "Serious Sam" games for less than 10 euro, even though I already bought the "HD First Encounter" when fusion was released, it still feels like I'm practically stealing software from them when buying the whole bundle.

As mentioned in other posts, they give you access to Fusion. Fusion is the only engine that supports Linux for the First and Second Encounter games.
Will it count as a Linux sale?

through steam? Ok, thanks Liam ^^

... I still not understand what is "fusion": a launcher, an engine, or something I don't mind 'cause it's the developer code name to say 'it works on linux and cie'?
I will buy this evening and see ^^

Quoting: EhvisWhat surprises me is that they have a Mac version available.
If I'm right they're using Metal on macOS and not OpenGL. They also stated it's the same issue on Windows with OpenGL, so it's not OS depenend. But as they're not using OpenGL on macOS we don't really know.

I wonder how large the risk is for them to remove linux support entirely if something breaks too badly.

If I understand Patreon correctly it is subscription based. I will not use that but I consider a one time donation via PayPal. Is this possible?

Yes, thanks Croteam, I'm really excited about you guys helping to pave the way for Vulkan. :)

Another note for purchasing, in this case, would be that it's okay to buy the "Windows" version since the money goes to Croteam regardless of which icon is on the purchase :)

This is great! Developers being open about the issue and even providing example project. Community helps out with workaround. Shining example for why it is good to be open and communicative.

I've recently been playing and enjoying both Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter - at last on Linux - thanks to the new Fusion launcher (Steam), and Broforce (GOG) on Linux.

Great games, highly recommended. True classics!

This is really great to hear more games with vulkan support coming out to Linux the better. I know we all want the "AAA" games that we see on Windows and that great companies like Feral and Aspyr are porting out. But there are so many good games like Serious Sam that are coming out and updated for Linux users. Myself I love what first party companies like Croteam is doing.

OpenGL vs Vulkan in Mad Max, re-tested
By psycho_driver, 6 April 2017 at 11:40 am UTC Likes: 2

Quoting: edddeduck_feral
Quoting: psycho_driverI really hope this work is back-ported to Shadow of Mordor since it uses roughly the same engine.

The engines are completely unrelated custom engines written by two seperate developers. They are not as related as XCOM and XCOM 2 for example.

So you're saying there's a chance . . . :D

Quoting: HyperdriveDumb question: How do I make my Ubuntu 16.04 run with Vulkan instead of OpenGL and is there a negative impact to this?

For Nvidia cards, you just add this PPA to your system, then make sure that you're using the 375 driver or above (378?). Then each game itself has to support Vulkan - that list is pretty small right now!

QuoteThat page was actually made partially due to Patron cancellations due to the website "being built on the content/contributions of many"
Liam, it's really pretty bizarre to hear that anyone would cancel their patreon because they thought you were somehow "stealing" or failing to acknowledge others' work. This site would be a ghost-ship without you, as proven by the two times you've stepped down for holidays/personal reasons.

It's even more meaningless when you realise that many of the other contributors to this site are also your patrons, myself included.

Weird stance to take!

Not my kind of game. Great there is a (even reduced graphcis) workaround. But Epic Games really should pull their finger out of the nose and fix this .. it's been a while.

There's no "instead" (fortunately), you just need to get the right (modern) drivers to support Vulkan.
Which ones depends on your GPU.

They mention Nvidia We've just asked Epic about any news and apparently there aren't any and they're contacting Nvidia again
I wonder it this is a problem with OpenGL in general or just with Nvidia's implementation , did someone try the demo they shared on AMD hardware?

I fucking-enjoy it on a mystery-non-linux OS using GOG Galaxy!
I both hope that Everspace (and Galaxy) will come to gnu/linux to avoid me too many of this bullshit dualboot.

With coop possibilities, Everspace would be so fun and a milestone for future space video games!

Quoting: EhvisWhat surprises me is that they have a Mac version available. With OpenGL being much better on Linux, it's not very likely that it is a problem with Unreal OpenGL support. Makes you wonder what exactly causes this problem.
Because there is no problem , Linux version is left for far last , just find excuses.
First was a "translucent materials" , second Nvidia driver(o'rly , what about AMD/Mesa..) , third waiting answer from Epix. And 6 months nobody found this-"Try to use "Surface ForwardShading" under Material Properties-> Translucency -> Lighting Mode".
Ieep they working hard on Linux , believe me :).
Sorry for black view , I support this game in kickstarter , but after these silly excuses i do not believe there will be Linux version.
Engine issues are not excuses. You're choosing a very bleak view to stick to.

They've been openly communicating about the issues and now someone pointed them to a possible workaround. It's a workaround that as quoted, isn't actually a final solution.

Coders don't know everything, anything can be overlooked.
