Installation 01, a fan-made Halo game plans Linux support
By GustyGhost, 27 March 2017 at 1:16 pm UTC

It is, however, a very slow moving project. Installation 01 was announced with plans for Linux support two years ago.

Quoting: qptain NemoNice. I hope that means Steam.

Quoting: Mountain ManGoG has had a Linux version of Planescape Torment for some time. It's a Wine wrapper, but it works perfectly.
Your mileage may vary as they say, but I definitely wouldn't call that perfectly. It's been a while but when I tried it it was pretty bad with the game taking over the entire desktop preventing alt+tabbing or something along those lines. Playing P:T using GemRB is much, much better if you ask me (which you can still do using your GOG copy of course). But hopefully this upcoming release will make all this moot regardless.
Well, "it works perfectly" in the sense that it runs without any slowdowns, crashes, etc.

Very nice to see such a project. I had heard about one using the source engine, but this one looks promising.
I would be willing to help, if that's not a completely closed project.

I still remember my Halo CD key! The Halo universe isn't amazing, by today's standards, but it was one of the most coherent and realistic ones at the time. And the gameplay was pretty revolutionary as well.

"it said "PC" and we all know how confusing that term is for Linux gamers."

"PC" is clear for me, it means "Personal Computer" not Windows or any system but more like hardware :P
Unfortunately, that often means "Windows" for most of people, but this is wrong and it should change. That's like say "console" and think it's only Sony, that's just nonsense

Evolvation, an Unreal Engine online space shooter is now on Linux

Quoting: DMJCSomeone needs to make a new Freespace style game. Put a decent plot in it and ship it with a mission editor. That's what made Freespace 2 last so long. Decent modding tools. Without that any space game that's not AAA is going to suffer the same fate as this game.
Waiting for this one: http://www.wingsofstnazaire.com/

Point & click horror game STASIS now has a new Linux Beta

Hope that the Stasis Linux beta will also come to GOG - because I own it on GOG and not Steam. And obviously, I'm a Linux gamer.

Fingers crossed!

Mudlet, the open source MUD client has a new major stable build available
By Kallestofeles, 27 March 2017 at 11:57 am UTC

Quoting: AlephcatThere is already a Discworld UI for mudlet, but V3 seems to break it a bit. I'm going to have a look at it when I get some time, but I'll have to learn LUA at the same time so may not be quick. I'll post on the DW boards if I manage to get something decent going.
Thanks!
There is indeed a DW interface but it has always been broken and not really offering as much as I'd like to have.
This guy, on the other hand, has been an absolute legend and has created near-perfect UI for mushclient Discworld:

Some people might consider it a bit cheating to have the maps but given the size of the world, for me, it's a must. :P

Wow, those guys are in a dangerous spot. Halo is a cash cow for MS and they will send lawyers to trow briefcases at then, if they're feeling that the Halo name are in danger. Especially if the game became really popular and fans start to make comparisons making MS games look bad.

I know that Nintendo would have sent letters to then already if this was a Mario themed game.

As for this game, I'm not a Halo fan but this look really nice, especially if they could introduce a FOV slider in the settings, because the main reason I disliked Halo was the "sniper FOV" of the original Xbox games.

Something microsoft founded that was great for once, up until the 4th halo game :P.
Im hyped for this one!
Would gladly pay alot of money for this!

For role players, it's arguably the best cRPG ever made. I say "for role players" because it has some shortcomings as a video game, but it is an outstanding RPG.

Point & click horror game STASIS now has a new Linux Beta
By Liam Dawe, 27 March 2017 at 11:16 am UTC

Quoting: CorbenWell... it's not really "now" as the passworded Linux beta branch is already available since may 2016 :)
It just got updated to the 2nd beta though. Here is the dialogue issue fixed, but it still seems to have some issues, like a segfault near the end.
Correct, I have cleared that up. I meant to say new beta, not just beta :)

Quoting: M@yeulCMmm... Not sure if it is a bug from the website or my gateway proxy, but I couldn't access the livestream page before setting my timezone. I didn't try reloading the page before setting it, though.
What happened when you tried? There's nothing in place to block it at all, we default to UTC for anyone who hasn't set it.

I just had a blank page, but I can't reproduce it anymore, even when reverting to UTC. Since I can't reproduce it, I don't think you should pay much attention to it, unless someone else reports the same.

Quoting: liamdawe
Quoting: M@yeulCI must say that all those dates are pretty hard to read on the livestream page. But timekeeping is hard ;)
Agreed, I've removed the extra UTC time, it will only show the one localized (or UTC default) time plus the countdown now. Was a little bit of info overload.
Thanks, it feels a bit less cluttered now. I don't think the UTC information is that necessary, unless sharing it with other people, in an online chat, for example.
It could be reintroduced as a tooltip on the date or the timer itself, but I don't know how useful that would be.
Quoting: liamdawe
Quoting: M@yeulCDoes it affect the timestamps in the messages as well?
The timestamps on messages are already localized using the jquery timeago plugin. Have been for a long time.
That's true, I didn't see it that way. I was thinking about the time we get in the tooltip when hovering over the timestamp. Not sure if those need to be localized.

This is excellent. I do a bit of Mudding with gf every once in a while in Discworld, but have to use Mushclient with Wine, because I find Mudlet too difficult to modify for Discworld.
If anyone knows LUA and would like to make a great UI for it, I'd love to hear more about it. :P

RTS game 'Deadhold' could come to Linux, considering an experimental Beta

Quoting: hardpenguinI very much respect this approach to Linux support.

Def there are people in linux community happy to help with bug reporting for linux, especially if leads to a new promising looking game.

Other than that... great idea! Does it affect the timestamps in the messages as well?
I must say that all those dates are pretty hard to read on the livestream page. But timekeeping is hard ;)

How about using some client-side timezone detection, to display a notification in the likes of: "Your browser seems to be configured to a different timezone than your account, click here to manage your timezone settings". I think that some websites such as bitbucket do it that way.

Never managed to get the PS:T widesceen (or indeed, any) mod installed under wine, so agree with it not being perfect.

Back to EEPS:T, will wait and see since I don't really trust beamdog to not mess it up in the content department.

If you like cRPGs, then absolutely yes. It has a great story, though the GUI could have been better.

I just hope Beamdog keep themselves to making the enhanced addition without having to add extra NPCs and stuff. In general, their stuff is absolutely awful, as seen in the 2 enhanced BG games they made.

I think Neera in BG1:EE is awesome ^___^

Neera is OK, it's the other NPCs I hate. Some of them are really cringe-worthy...

YAY HOW AWESOME! I've been waiting for this. Too bad it will probably be quite expensive -_____-

Quoting: FeistFantastic! I´ve been waiting for the enhanced edition of "Icewind Dale" for a long time now (and keeping my fingers crossed for IWDII as well) but I didn´t dare to hope for "Torment".

The new "Beamdog Client" sounds interesting as well:

"Sharp eyed users will notice the new Beamdog Client supports products on Mac (we’ve specifically designed it to work well with Sierra) and Linux. Though Linux users will see an empty list where games should be, perhaps that’s a sign of things to come in the future. ;)

They already have Icewind Dale: EE on gog, I got it in a sale a while back and I just love they way there are NO loadingtimes, nada, everything is just great. The writing in that game is not superb though, I bought it for nostalgia. I played ID more than Baldurs Gate when I was a kid.
