2Dark released without a Linux version despite promising it during crowdfunding

Pyramid scheme. Consumer rights watchdogs should be all over crowdfunding. Perhaps its time for someone to create a portfolio of all the lies and false claims to start class action.

At this point I wouldn't care if that led crowd funders to drop linux because they were not sure if they could deliver, at least you don't get ripped off and lied too.

This is probably due to their deal with publisher bigben interactive, apparently they forgot to check the crowdfunding promises when signing the dotted line...

Absolutely inexcusable. Compare this to how obsidian treated their backers when signing a publisher deal: Pillars of eternity got released on gog fine despite paradox entertainment refusing to publish there nowadays.

Judging this thread here, there will be no DRM-Free versions of any kind either.

The publisher is a straight up close-minded one that thinks Denuvo and DRM is the key to ensure a studio remains in business. I can only say one thing to that, I hope karma gets them.

I think I bought a copy off their website not long back. Hope I don't regret it.

@Liam, in light of the very frequent disappointments Linux gamers experience at the hands of dishonest developers who promise Linux support only while the campaign is still ongoing to then callously renege on their contractual obligations (yes, kickstarters are contracts, just no court has so far decided to enforce them), perhaps you should not give any other Kickstarter project the free publicity they haven't earned by mentioning them here. Case in point, the latest one: 2Dark.

How many slaps to the face will it take before we realize some developers will lie through their teeth in order to get funded? Enough! You want my money, you have to earn it.

I wouldn't touch these guys products now even if they came out with what they promised. Liars don't deserve my money.

This is shameful.
I'm disgusted. I backed this project both because I'm a fan of Frédérick Raynal (Little Big Adventure/Relentless, Alone in the Dark, just to mention) AND because it was announced for Linux.

I feel this as a spit in the face, as the project page clearly announces a Linux version AND NO DRM. I indicated in the project comments that I wouldn't ask for a refund until I have more information about Linux release, but if this information is confirmed then I'll rethink my position just like they did.

I haven't heard of this game before and never will buy it. I don't crowdfund as it is glorified panhandling with no guarantees.

Quoting: NaughtyDeveloperI guess people could ask for a refund? Because they advertised a feature they did not deliver?

Worth a try... didn't work for me with Carmageddon though, I was totally ignored - along with many, many others. It really is unacceptable.

I have the alpha (got it when they actually made clear that they would be doing the entire alpha on all platforms, not Linux as an afterthought), so I'll have a good look next week.

I never had any problems with the game though. Besides the usual Unity issues (failing to start when certain hardware is plugged in or certain programs are running).

Baaaaad. This is why people sometimes get so cranky about crowdfunding. It really hurts all the legitimate and good projects on KS/gogo/etc.

Honestly, I'm not disappointed at all. Learned that Windows developers are untruthful bitches long time ago. It's not even their fault, really... They just lack knowledge, skill and consistency. Period.

I'm waiting for a campaign that will say "knowing the marketing strategies of our competitors, we don't expect Linux community to support the title at all but we will release for Linux first anyway because it's what we use everyday and what we know best".

Copy & Paste from the Q&A (official Website):
QuoteTHIS IS NOT A COMPLETE GAME
You should not approach the alpha build as a “final game with bugs”. This is not the case. The development of Planet Nomads is a continuous cycle with a lot of content to be created and added to the game. The Early Access release in Q1 2017 will be closer to the game we have in mind, and will feature survival and crafting, but we are still expecting at least 2-years of development after the EA release to bring Planet Nomads to its full potential.

I will have a look look at the game later in time, maybe end of 2018 or beginning of 2019.
I have already supported several early access games too early. I've become more cautious, and I'd rather wait a little. Probably the game is then more expensive. But I prefer an expensive but good-looking and well-functioning game as no game or a game that is never finished or a half-finished game that is thrown onto the market.

But I must say - does not look bad so far.

Quoting: AryvandaarI've been playing Pillars of Eternity The White March. It's quite fun, and I really like the new companions in the DLC. I have yet to finish Pillars of Eternity, and I have logged over 100 hours but I'm the kind of guy who play RPG as a competitionist, if the content is good of course.

I'm surprised that you play White March before finishing the main line. How does the DLC integrate?

I think the key thing is that you just have to have Caed Nua before you start The White March. Some Watcher stuff is in the DLC story. But, the whole thing is as expected for a small town north of dyrwood. People don't really know about you, except you being an adventurer, and are quite surprised when they find out that you're a Watcher.

Razer looking to improve Linux support on their 'Blade' series of laptops
By Aryvandaar, 13 March 2017 at 9:39 am UTC

I'm able to configure my razer blackwidow ultimate 2016 in Linux, so that is a big plus. I'm trying to look into support for my logitech mouse configs in Linux, but no luck. :/

I might buy a razer mouse cause I know they are supported in Linux.

It's a good one. The community assets available are unlimited - people spend so much time modding that game. You're right -- it is a big install even with just the US/Europe maps (37 GB)

Just wait until you start adding stuff. Soon you'll find it grew to 500 GB. I spoke to streamer that rendered large parts of the EU and US in photo scenery and accumulated over 10 TB. It can get a little crazy.

Uhh.. that sounds like a nightmare/ possible bug. 10 TB?! Maybe time to remove some of the areas unless they are attempting to literally fly around the world. Even then.. delete the higher latitudes : )

EDIT: I just saw you said photo scenery. That's insane.

Quoting: mrdeathjrYeah have cuda - nvenc sdk and ffmpeg all enable is difficult but possible (with guides)

Same here, I guess I've just gotten used to having the AUR and ABS (Arch Build System) available to automate so much of this. I'm actually a developer myself and so I have no problem with the know-how, rather it's the time/frustration that I prefer to keep to a minimum :)

Quoting: mrdeathjrHowever another important detail respect screen casting is have hard drive dedicated to capture, in my case have one for system and other for screencasting (since around october stay using new hard drive for capture, one seagate survillance series VX001)
^_^
Yeah, I agree. I have two 512GB NVMe drives (one for system, and one mounted for media) and a third drive - 1TB Samsung 850 for other media and other OS. E.g. Linux Mint is my dedicated OS for anything in Wine (somehow I feel safer? with it separated from my primary OS)

When I moved my DiRT Rally install (44 GB) from my main drive to the other NVMe drive, the benchmark was consistently lower by ~5-10 fps. This shows that even in extremely fast drives, having to jump over to another one still has a penalty involved.

Obviously some programs can fit entirely into memory, but there is a CPU cost usually involved. Firefox/Chrome are SSD killers (go watch your I/O with Chrome on Youtube...) so I run them entirely in RAM, with the side effect of more CPU %. It's all a balancing act.

Quoting: mrdeathjrIn arch them provides simple screen recorder with nvenc support
^_^
Yes! I love that program. The default settings are usually good enough for quick recording.

Quoting: mrdeathjrRespect roller coaster is supposed them can provide linux version, however this game type with many objects could be ideal to use vulkan (if them dont have work on opengl now)
^_^
Gotcha. Yeah, it's amazing how quickly Vulkan performance has improved. Talos Principle (Vulkan) @2160p is consistent 140+ fps for me.

Virtual Reality was a commercial failure in the past and is a failure in the present and will be a failure in the future...

I don't understand why they waste time and resources with this..

Virtual reality will be a success only if we manage to hack the human brain with a non-invasive method, stimulating the parts related to the five senses... And that is science fiction, for now.

Quoting: veccheras someone that is trying to work in games, i think i should participate of more game jams, never did it before, looks cool, but i wouldn't be able to produce enough assets in time, and if we aren't allowed to use even the starter content from the engines it would be really hard if i take in count my skills with making models and materials, plus it would take me something near an entire day to upload my project.

I think you can totally make a valid game by re-using content. As long as it's a good one!
