Project Cars 2 now has a trailer, with no mention of their promised Linux/SteamOS support

Even without Linux support, they list a continuous internet connection as a requirement so that is the final nail in the coffin. Waiting for Dirt Rally.

At start I didn't think Talos Principle will be a game for me. I bought it anyway, since it was the first game with Vulkan I could test.

And it became my favorite game by now.

Sorry, I am not looking for a discussion or anything. I think it is an awesome bundle, and I highly recommend Thirty Flights of Loving to my linux friends, it works very well with wine, well worth the time and money IMO!

Quoting: bubexelIt's correct to pay for a product that you don't have any kind of guarrantee or support?

If it was a question then yes, it is correct to pay for a product you are using if its owners demand a fee for the usage. Regardless of the circumstances, period.

Quoting: bubexelwhy you should pay to play a game that maybe crash time to time and maybe won't load second level or get stuck in any place? I won't pay for any windows game to be used on wine.

If you started to use the product it means you have confirmed your acceptance of the terms of use. Have any complaints? Then do not use the product. It is as simple as this. If you are OK with WINE then it is your headache if the game does not run as the developers stated clearly in the system requirements: Windows is required.

Want to be sure? Purchase and install Windows (it is not that expensive at all) and start enjoying the game without any graphical and I/O glitches.

Still dissatisfied with the setup? That's understandable. Two options:
1) Try to convince the developers that they are losing customers (you being case in point) by not having Linux version;
2) Failing that, screw them and move to another project, which has Linux version. Those guys are deserving your money, time and appreciation more.

Keep up the great work Croteam, you really deserve my respect and so my money!

Totally agree, Talos Principle easily became my most favorite puzzle game (not necessarily just among puzzle games), and the story and presentation are equally amazing. I am currently replaying Gehenna again, but the Vulkan is just too unstable for me, it randomly freezes the game and I have to kill it and the Xorg via SSH, because it becomes totally unresponsive (I am using publicbeta branch, which is now released in public branch, so I don't expect that this release contains anything different, but I will check the Vulkan out again nonetheless)

Quoting: GuestI am much more inclined to buy games from developers who say 'no Linux version planned, sorry' due to it being financially unviable or something, rather than those who make empty promises. Still, as shakey as it may be, I hope it comes to Linux.
Oddly, I'm not. Well, not for any practical purposes--I suppose there's a distinction between "Won't buy" and "Really won't buy no way in Hell ever". But there are 3000 games on Steam for Linux now and my library is about 30 or so. I literally own only 1% of the games available for Linux on Steam alone. Even assuming at least 90% of the games are either crap or not in my gaming sweet spot, it would take me a decade just to buy the games I might want that are already out for Linux, and they're coming out faster and faster. I really don't have time or money to be buying games that aren't on Linux even if no promises were broken.

I almost wish it were different so I could punish the promise-breakers more than people who just never planned a Linux version, but there you go.

Awesome to see Feral working on Mesa, and doubly awesome seeing them take an interest in Vulkan drivers. I guess they really are releasing their first Vulkan port soon.

Quoting: miroPC2 looks good, yes, and I believe it will be a pretty much good game. now I still doubt I would buy it and I am really not the shitstorm-like-guy I probably should be, but I think in case it really does come to linux, PC2 would be the first game on steamOS I would `pirate` by downloading it from whatever source and using a noCD-crack or whatever. Just for fun, to show my lack of support for these ...guys.
Please leave piracy at the door before commenting here, we do not support it. This is an idiotic view to take "it doesn't support Linux, so I will pirate it". That doesn't show your lack of support for them, it shows you up as a pirate. Not cool.

Unlike Wholly Mad Studios, Croteam are actually worth a purchase. So I'm excited for the new stuff as well. Even though SSHD probably doesn't really need Vulkan for performance. And I probably won't have time to play it. :D

Back on topic:

I have about 40-50% of these games, and, being on a fixed income, I really shouldn't (given my budget and the games I already bought this month) buy it :'( . Oh well. I could have gifted them, but it's just not to be. :(

Wine 2.1 is out with more Shader Model 5 work

Quoting: ShmerlNice. By the way, did anyone manage to make intro video play in the Witcher 3? I'm testing GOG version (which someone kindly gifted to me, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it). From the start menu it goes straight into the rotating snake and broken graphics starting area. But some apparently managed to make intro videos work.

I don't know if you know yet, but I did figure out how to do it, install this windows 7 update (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=36805 and it should allow video playback. It then plays the intro video and the begining video before the menu.

I was able to get the videos in wine 2.0 and 2.1 through playonlinux.

See this bug. The shorter way to do it is to install xact_jun2010 with winetricks.

Quoting: NoYzEIs there any good resource about what mesa actually is? I think i am using nvidia libgl, so is a new mesa version affecting me in any way or is it just for the amd folks?
Yep, the FAQ on the Mesa homepage, although that's slightly dated information. If you are using the nVidia proprietary drivers, Mesa is not relevant for you, as the proprietary nVidia driver ships a complete graphics stack, that basically replaces all open-source components.
For modern Intel hardware, there is basically one Linux driver, the OpenGL (and Vulkan, and OpenCL) component of which is part of Mesa. The same is true for the open source AMD driver (which also has parts in the llvm project, namely the shader compiler). The proprietary AMD driver replaces the OpenGL (and Vulkan, and OpenCL) driver of Mesa, but uses the open source AMDGPU Kernel module.

I think that all graphic card driver developers are affected by each MESA upgrade , NVIDIA , AMD , Intel etc in one way or another.
I will explain... for example NVIDIA Proprietary drivers.

Each upgrade of Mesa affects NVIDIA because it has to do with OpenGL,VULKAN, OPENCL and so on.
I beleive that all the graphic developers contribute to MESA and at the end they will use the open source code and integrate it into their own proprietary drivers.

Well maybe I am wrong though.. if someone can shed some light on this ..

The contributions of nVidia to the open source graphics stack are very limited, especially when it comes to dedicated GPUs. Actually they are even reluctant to publish signed firmware binaries, which are required by the nVidia open source drivers to achieve acceptable performance, in a timely manner (see for instance "Nouveau Developers Remain Frustrated By NVIDIA's Firmware Practices" ). Other contributions like libglvnd serve mostly the purpose of making the installation of the proprietary drivers easier. The only really noteworthy contribution to Mesa I am aware of was to improve Tegra support, so also hardly relevant for desktop users.

(must resist urge to post Linus' "nVidia, fuck you" video)

I know, that what prompted me to check their actual website, was wanting to call them out on it.

Edit: I always get surprised that Trump and right wing idiots in general actually exist in reality, but then I stumble upon them in my own backyard, it's frightening. Oh, and that they won the election. What can you say? "Money laundering", OK.

Yeah, the idiots won the election, and they are going to keep winning as long as you don't threat people with different opinions with respect. Biggot.

So I should treat white supremacists, islamists, racists, sexists with "respect", because you know, they just have "different opinions". Interesting approach. Particularly since those I'm supposed to treat with respect show not the slightest of respect for people not fitting into their mindset.

At least you included islamists in your list and not islamophobics, I give you that. Anyway, there is a difference between that list and "right wing idiots in general", don't try to sugarcoat it now.

Edit: oh I confused you with the other guy. My point stand, there is a difference between that list and "right wing idiots in general"

We cover everything possible that claims it will support Linux.

In this case it's also very important to highlight developers who claim they will support Linux and do not deliver on that. Otherwise, it's letting them get away with it.

Edit: And I'm not sure what you mean by "continuous", this is only the second time anyone here has covered PC2.

Calm down boy. Just games. By the way: Bethesda's Doom runs better under Wine than any port. I think that means a lot for Vulkan. With this technology one gets ports as cheaply as never and Feral becomes unemployed. ;)

I love everyone who develops computer games or does something for it.
