I've found disabling the timeline video thumbnails to significantly improve performance.

Will it work as an independent library in the actual games, or it's tied to Steam?

I doubt this will create lock in. It will probably be a check box in options menus that will be greyed out if you're not on Steam, much like Dolby Surround or EAX have been for years.

I did play this and somewhat like it , but after WOT and AW the horror of the grind dawns on me.

The only reason I would not support Gaijin as a company is how they lash out on ANY criticism of their game. I;ve heard enough stories to steer clear.

Yep, proxies are pretty great. :D I'm glad you found them! Not that I consider myself a Kdenlive pro, I've just been using it for about 7–8 months.

If the extra file space is a problem, you can also delete the proxy file(s) after you're done rendering the movie, they can always be recreated if you want to use the raw footage again. If you leave them, though, and use the raw footage in another video project it'll have the proxy already available and not need to recreate it.

It is. The user interface is a bit unconventional but the program is fast, complete, and stable.
The only real BIG problem is that the final video rendering is singlethreaded, which can be an enormous waste of time.

AMD officially announce Ryzen 7 CPUs for launch on March 2nd
By finaldest, 23 February 2017 at 6:41 pm UTC

This is excellent news.

Will wait for reviews and then order a 1800X if all goes well. I will be opting for a complete build so will likely drop around 1k on this Ryzen setup so want to make sure this will last atleast 2/3 years.

I am currently running a 4770k so just want to compare single threaded results prior to purchase.

Grab a joystick, strap a steamcontroller to your head for head tracking and have fun in simulator battles while looking like an idiot . (be advised: it's an easy to learn simulator light of sorts we are talking about here)

Wish they would give the Linux version proper AA and working 5.1 sound but otherwise it's a very well optimised game and it is indeed quite discrete in advertising the ingame-shop.

Quoting: liamdaweEh? I've posted 3 articles that could be classed as guides this entire month. One last month, and before that the last was November 2016.

Respectfully, I completely disagree.
Eh? I said oversaturated with "non news", and that "this one" was a guide.
I counted 6 "non news" articles just on the first page.

6 in the front page? I had to go back to Feb 15th to find the last one, about how to find Linux releases on Steam. What are you terming 'non-news'?

Regardless, I like the mix, so maybe Liam's suggestion of changing the site to allow filerting by tag will keep everyone happy.

If he talk about TUTO, BUYPRICE & EXPERIENCE posts, i would say theses :
https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/black-ice-the-hack-and-shoot-fps-has-a-major-update-to-change-the-entire-game.9152
https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/a-look-at-bleed-2-the-crazy-action-game-from-ian-campbell.9161

Your definition of news is very... focused. Certainly a long way from my own, if you don't consider reviews or sales as being worthy of inclusion on the front page. Here's hoping you get your filters - you might consider supporting Liam's Patreon and asking for such a feature directly, although he has certainly already mentioned it in this thread anyway.

Quoting: liamdaweIt's not the fact that it's VR, but having something like that strapped to your face for a long time and the games themselves, that's what I'm keen to put some time and thoughts into.

I'm curious about how the headsets interact with glasses, personally. I have trouble even wearing headphones, since they crush the posts against my head, so the idea of an obviously much heavier piece of hardware that needs to have room for the lenses themselves (unless they've got SERIOUSLY adjustable focus to compensate I guess) is hard to wrap my head around, so to speak.
As someone who wears glasses too, this is also something I'm keen to know.

We now have an official Ballistic Overkill server
By OlliC, 23 February 2017 at 5:10 pm UTC

Quoting: liamdaweI've hardly changed anything. I set it to dedicated, since it is.

Edit: Servers vanish from the list while changing maps, maybe that is what's confusing you?

Maybe. I got it listed once in the server browser and played a few rounds. After that it vanished from the list and i have not seen it again since then. Pressed refresh for minutes.

The other thing that was confusing was the value for DedicatedBroadcast. In the tutorial on steam forums it says: set 1 to P2P Broadcast or 2 to Server Broadcast
and in the config file it says: 0: P2P Broadcast 1: Server Broadcast.
I have it on 2 at the moment.

I also had to change the default ports. Because i have a Insurgency server running that used these ports already. Maybe it has something to do with this.

I would suggest trying out the Vive vs the PS4. Full on room scale has just that much more immersion, which I think helps a lot with motion sickness. Though I'll be honest and say I sit down for Windlands... pretty sure that game would make me fall over.

I pre-ordered this back in 2014, so I'm super eager to play. But circumstances mean that I won't be able to until Saturday. Alas, cruel fate!

Wine-Staging 2.2 released with CSMT speed optimizations

I've contacted the staging team. Bug #42512. He suggested that the problem is related
to the nvidia drivers that I use. Which asks me, is anyone have performance drops that
uses mesa drivers?

A hot fix is available that disables the patch set.

commit 3f25cd198a00fa32ee0b5e9bccfa569bff92ef0b
    wined3d-buffer_create: Disable patchset.

AMD officially announce Ryzen 7 CPUs for launch on March 2nd
By natewardawg, 23 February 2017 at 4:43 pm UTC

Quoting: PompesdeskyI'm quite confident about it, my fear is that as in the graphics card space a lot of users only like AMD being competitive to buy their usual stuff (Intel/Nvidia) at a more affordable price.

I completely understand your fears with this. As an avid Intel/Nvidia only user for the last 10 years, for the first time in a very long time I'm seriously considering making an AMD CPU/GPU rig. I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

Mesa now has a shader cache in Mesa-git for r600/radeonsi
By Shmerl, 23 February 2017 at 4:38 pm UTC

Quoting: aejsmith
Quoting: ShmerlWhy can't those games take care of caching shaders on their own? It's completely possible for developers to do it to optimize things.

This is a cache of compiled shaders. To cache these in a game would require GL_ARB_get_program_binary or something similar to get access to compiled binaries, which Mesa doesn't implement (or rather, it does, but it does not implement any binary formats which means it can't actually be used for anything).

Why doesn't Mesa implement any binary formats? Developers just never got to do it, or something blocks it?

By Xicronic, 23 February 2017 at 4:35 pm UTC

Quoting: Avehicle7887Great news for AMD users, hopefully it will be enabled for Intel HD too one day (unless it's there already), Sometimes I'm stuck only with a laptop.

It is, in fact Intel did the bulk of the shader caching work. The recent patches by Arceri just allow R600/RadeonSI to interface with the driver nonspecific code Intel made.

Of course, I think it only supports recent Intel chipsets.

Quoting: EikeTrouble is: I'm not sure replacing my Intel 3570K would actually speed up any game. If it does, I will strongly consider buying an AMD CPU.

You may want to check the end of the year when we will probably have a lot more games coming out with Vulkan support. There will possibly be a difference between the 4 threads in the 3570K and the 16 threads in the Ryzen CPUs. Until then, I think you're absolutely right, it won't helping gaming much.

For folks like me who do game development or artists who do 3D rendering, these CPUs will help a ton since rendering or baking lightmaps of a scene can literally take days to render! A faster multi-core CPU is a huge win! :)
