Next month marks seven years of me running GamingOnLinux, how should we celebrate?
By Nyamiou, 4 June 2016 at 3:17 pm UTC

Quoting: AdinimysAbout the game we could play, if we can trust release windows (yeah, trust windows... :P) we may be able to do a Rocket League tournament :D
Unlikely, Psyonix are working on an huge patch to be released at the end of June, I don't think they would release the Linux version before that.

I remember when Darksiders was "98% done" and just needed some polish. By now it should be able to show you your reflection and tell you who's the fairest of them all. Hopefully, this game won't be like that.

Valve announce over half a million Steam Controllers have been sold
By Eike, 4 June 2016 at 3:10 pm UTC

Quoting: CreakIt's really weird because the controller configurations are dedicated to Broforce, so it definitely seems to be a problem coming from my PC, but I really don't know why. Maybe Fedora 23 is just really bad at this? Maybe it's a problem with GNOME Shell?

I vaguely remember and unfortunately I didn't write it down anywhere apparently...
I had to do some modprobe to make the gamepad emulation work. "modprobe uinput" maybe?

Actually Linux has been added to the QA branch for the June patch :
https://steamdb.info/app/252950/history/?changeid=1997802

But this isn't the first time :
https://steamdb.info/app/252950/history/?changeid=1683398

Hopefully this time is the right one. There is absolutely no chance that they release it before the June patch, so it will be either at the end of June or later.

Quoting: kingofrodeoAccording to SteamDB, the game has approximately 3.4 million owners, of which 1/3 were active in the last 2 weeks.
Also, 24k are playing right now, and the average daily peak is 40k.
So yeah, bring it on.

Daily peak is much more than that, 90k+ players (displayed ingame), every GMT evening.

I played it in alpha and I loved it, now I bought it in the Humble Monthly and I love it even more. It finally made my Windows partition useful for something other that collecting virtual dust and wasting valuable space on my SSD. (My university requires some Windows-specific development tools so I did have to keep that partition just in case the Linux alternatives can't handle the task - which did occasionally happen)

Can't wait to have it on Linux, rebooting is very annoying even if it takes a very short time on an SSD, for multiple reasons... I hope it will have good performance, because my laptop is quite aged and many Linux games performed better on Windows in my tests and I fear it won't be playable, because that did happened before with other games :(

I'm also planning to build a kick-ass console-PC with SteamOS sometime next year and this game will fit right in.

Has anyone had the chance to try COOP yet?
I simply cannot get it to work and it's making me sad :c

Feral Interactive are teasing another new Linux & Mac port with a new clue
By GBee, 4 June 2016 at 2:36 pm UTC

Just in case you were serious, which I doubt you were ...

Why would Volition go to a third party to port Red Faction Guerilla when they already have in-house experience of porting their games to linux with the Saint's Row series?

Why when we already know that both Warhammer games are coming to linux, with Feral the most likely porter for both games given their history (and their fingerprints all over the SteamDB for Warhammer 40k), would the least likely answer of Red Faction Guerilla be the right answer?

Remember, that while we know both Warhammer games are coming, Feral haven't officially confirmed either. The ToW game was confirmed by Creative Assembly (no mention of porter) and WH4K: DoW was confirmed by the appearance of repos months back in SteamDB.

Valve announce over half a million Steam Controllers have been sold
By Creak, 4 June 2016 at 2:27 pm UTC

Well I've tried again to play Broforce with my SteamController, I tried to change the udev rules as described in the other article, I tried to use different community configurations, but nothing really worked. The best I have is being able to move the helicopter around on the map, but with some really weird inputs like even the triggers on the back was moving the helicopter. And I couldn't even select something in the menu.

It's really weird because the controller configurations are dedicated to Broforce, so it definitely seems to be a problem coming from my PC, but I really don't know why. Maybe Fedora 23 is just really bad at this? Maybe it's a problem with GNOME Shell?

Is there someone here that has both Fedora and a working SteamController?

Quoting: fagnerlnThis game has single player, and local coop. So, longevity isn't a problem.

I don't think single player is the heart of the game.
And local co-op, well, I could ask my wife, but...

So I guess if I'll play it, it's all about showing GOL how bad people in the country of the world football champion can play. ;)

Feral Interactive are teasing another new Linux & Mac port with a new clue
By GBee, 4 June 2016 at 1:43 pm UTC

As has already been said more than once in this thread - Mars = God of WAR and "808 SB12S" = mc HAMMER - so the ONLY valid answer can be "Total War: Warhammer" or "[u]Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II" both of which we already know about but neither of which have been previously confirmed by [b]Feral themselves.

Feral seem to be on a mission to bring the entire Total War series to linux whether we want them or not.

So can we all stop pretending that we don't know the answer already?

Quoting: Al3sI'm not buying it, I have the original and Dying Light and they both run like shit and now that I don't use catalyst I'm not even trying

Dying light has improved no end since they patched it a few times, Run it fine now on the prop drivers with a 290x

Just downloading dead island to see what its like :S: Hope they've learnt from their dying light release

With mesa? Well, then I'm installing it right now. I thougt it was a lost cause. Thanks for the info.

That's with the prop drivers, 15.12's

Shit, I didn't catch that you said prop drivers. 15.12? Is that AMDGPU Pro? Anyway, I'm keeping mesa, it works much better for non gaming use.

Quoting: liamdawe
Quoting: tuubiThe game seems really fun. Too bad my friends have probably already lost interest, and playing with random strangers isn't really my cup of tea. I'll most likely still get it but I might have to wait for a sale. Happily the Steam summer sale isn't far off.
Then join in some games with the GOL community, I am sure there will be plenty ;)

Is that via the Steam group?

QuoteThe most people of the community in-game as possible would be awesome. Maybe we could try to invade a MMORPG like WAKFU or Ryzom, what do you think?

Everyone sharing a screenshot of them playing their favourite game on Linux (playing on a window so we can notice it's Linux), if there is enough submissions that could be really cool as well (we would need a new module in the website to show the screenshot).

Having a live interview of Gabe Newell.

3 great ideas :D

The PAYDAY 2 developers now own the franchise, ditching microtransactions, PAYDAY 3 looks like it's a thing
By Adinimys, 4 June 2016 at 10:53 am UTC

I had no time to play it since the last update (update number 100, a big one) so I can't confirm but the changelog says that they removed the microtransaction (it was added when they were bought by another company and now that they fully own Payday again they removed it so).

For the unlock system I had really no issue with it. When playing with friends it's really really fun no matter what stuff/skills you have, plus it's not that long to unlock all the basic things you could be needing. Sure you won't be able to jump into really high difficulty game at first because your character will be too weak but it isn't an issue for me.

Well, Rocket League is a game where multi-player is important and for multi-player games, the community often shrinks when the game gets older. So the delay certainly matters and decreases the amount of money the game is worth However, the fact that recently cross-platform play with Xbox has been added should counter that, so I expect we can still have great fun with it. It should not take another 6 months though.

don’t rules this game out entirely, it sold lots of copies and a lot of games now don't make it to version 2, they get a massive update + DLC expansion.

Rocket League for Linux & SteamOS getting close to a release window finally
By Adinimys, 4 June 2016 at 10:43 am UTC Likes: 1

In my personal case, I don't care about the delay because there are plenty of other game (yep, plenty of good games on Linux, what a day to be alive :D ) that I could play in the meantime. But I'm pretty sure it had a bad effect on the (probably few...) early adopters of the steam boxes.
Seeing an important title sold as being available on the platform unplayable during more than half a year can't be a first experience for someone wanting to try Linux/SteamOS.
So, yeah... Valve Time... I hope that Linux gaming will finally get the same intention as Windows in the long run... If it is to end up like this, I am ready to wait ^_^

No. That is not how GOG connect works...

i mean i didn’t think that, but seen as sometimes games are on Steam way before GOG for the Linux version i wanted to check because by the same token games soon to be out on Linux can end up on GOG first for windows.

Thanks

Hard Reset Redux is showing signs that it is coming to Linux & SteamOS
By ziabice, 4 June 2016 at 10:21 am UTC

Honestly, at 3€ it's a bargain. The Hard Reset "classic" works very well under Linux using WINE and Mesa, tried to install the Redux edition, but requires DirectX 10 (the Steam store requirements are wrong).
I hope they'll port the game to Linux, will be amazing: I enjoyed playing it, it's so '90.

It is is really a shame that this game wasn't available during the Steam Controller/Machine launch, as everyone who bought a controller or Steam Machine experienced that they couldn't play this game.

I will still be purchasing it, because I have learned to resist the temptation to dual boot, it looks like a good game and to reward developers for supporting Linux. I might not pay full price though and wait for a sale, as it is an older game by now. Hope they do a sale on Linux launch.

Finally, I have resorted to using Windows 10 to play this game with friends and now there's one less reason to ever boot it, yay! I also got Psyonix at least two more customers.

And yeah I realize I'm not supporting Linux as well as I should but I reckon having some semblance of a social life makes the trade-off worth it.
