SEUM: Speedrunners from Hell, a heavy metal first-person platformer that looks insane is coming to Linux

I may have to buy this game for the music alone because I suck at games like this.

Maybe they'll release the soundtrack separately ... oooooo, yeah. Playing in the background while fighting off the cops in Payday 2. Mmmmmmmm, bullets.

Sunday chat: What have you been playing, and what do you think?

Quoting: Eike
Quoting: Farmboy0I have been going for the size optimization challenges. Mostly this gets you the steps optimization challenge too but not always or I haven't looked hard enough.

For many of the more complex puzzles, you can do either speed or steps in one program.
But you can start the next program (there are tabs for thee programs in the upper right) and do the other challenge as well.

Yeah I saw that but I have solved all the puzzles using the size challenge so far. Most of the time you can solve the speed challenge that way too.

Looks like both Dead Island Definitive Edition and Dead Island Riptide Definitive Edition are coming to Linux & SteamOS

Nice, I still haven't won riptide yet. Stopped playing it when I started being in Linux 90% of the time.

I wonder if this is a sign that Dead Island 2 is going to get a port when it's finally released.

Valve & HTC launch the Vive VR device, without Linux & SteamOS support
By @limatangoalpha, 10 May 2016 at 4:16 pm UTC

Quoting: HyperdriveAt this time, SteamVR is not supported on Linux.
While disappointing it's good to have official confirmation finally, if only HTC/Valve had made that clear on the Steam pre-order page instead of leaving any changes to the last minute then going publicly silent on the subject. Understandably that behaviour could be seen as "False Advertising" which is illegal in most countries, not a particularly sensible business practice as lawsuits and negative press may follow.

Quoting: HyperdriveHTC has not replied yet. Although I'm completely convinced they lied right out. I filled out an order form with Linux as an option. There was no indication in any correspondence with HTC that this contract could be broken later on.
If you're certain they lied and, more importantly, have proof you are well within your right to demand an official explanation and some level of compensation for your inconvenience.

Quoting: Hyperdrivethis kind of ignorance really pisses me off and I would be satisfied with so little.
I can assure you you're not alone, I wrote an open letter to HTC publicly detailing my (negative) experience. Perhaps it's worth you doing something similar to help clear any potential confusion/issues others may be facing, typically companies only take notice once enough momentum is generated and/or sales are affected.

Just out of curiosity - why?

just look for the massive amount of shit thrown by youtube users on it compared to the fairly positive reaction here.

All it takes though is for 10% of that reaction to be positive and it would still outsell the Linux version tenfold.

Had the fortune to see the game demoed at Reboot Develop. Looked really fun and creative. Sweet to have it come to Linux!

Well, as a heavy metal fan I guess I'm going to have to buy this :-).

Also did anyone notice this warning?

Warning: SEUM has been known to cause leaning disease. Symptoms are irrational leaning forward towards your screen when making difficult jumps. Smashing monitors with your head is not a way to beat the game!

Sunday chat: What have you been playing, and what do you think?
By Seegras, 10 May 2016 at 12:32 pm UTC

7 Days to Die. Since Alpha 14.6 the Linux version is playable again (the broke the shaders in 14.5), although there are some snags:

- It used to be extremely fast in 13.8 to start up, until the main menu appeared. Now it takes minutes (?). From main menu to game it's also slower, but still rather fast.

- There's a bug with tone mapping or bloom or something, making light sources and bright surfaces on Linux _extremely_ bright.

- There's still some weirdness with scavenging. Things that are not very scarce in real life, but extremely so in 7DTD. Like loads of zombie lumberjacks, but chainsaws extremely scarce. Or that you can't find loads of cement in any construction site.

And the good:

- 13.8 had a lot of out-of-memory crashes, these are mostly gone.

- The skill system has been revamped, and I think it's become rather nice.

OpenApoc, the open source engine for X-COM: Apocalypse shows impressive progress
By Liam Dawe, 10 May 2016 at 12:23 pm UTC

Quoting: JonnyHThanks for your interest - this video was actually recorded on Linux, and is my primary dev platform.

The progress is rather slow, mainly due to manpower, so if you are / know any devs willing to help out please let us know!

Or just drop by the forum at openapoc.pmprog.co.uk, or IRC (freenode #openapoc) and say Hi :)

It's one project I would love to be kept informed about. Message me any time on the progress!

Quoting: KeyrockGood news, even if I consider these games obsolete given that Dying Light exists.

That's exactly how I see it too. Dying Light is what Dead Island should have been. It's just so much better on every single aspect.

Quoting: TheRiddickFeral should port Skyrim then/or Fallout4... just saying.

Is it Feral who choose what to port, or the development/publisher house approaching Feral?

Must be the publisher! How should they get the source code otherwise? Also they wouldn't have any rights for distribution then.

Shit. I started in a place with no minerals and I had my starting fleet butchered by a nearby un-contacted empire in my own system.

I thought I was going to play as a little vassal, but lucky me I found 4 advanced ships on an 2 abandoned shipyards and then nobody seemed to bother about colonizing a nearby mineral-rich system.

I'm still on the weak side for the time being, but I'm back in game.

Quoting: neowiz73just picked up Stellaris Nova Edition from the Games Republic store, plus I got the Anomoly Warzone Earth for free as well. that's a pretty good deal :)
Except the Anomaly games don't seem to work in Linux, and the developer apparently can't be bothered to fix them.

I was playing Anomaly Korea a couple of months ago and it was fine. I also completed the first Anomaly game on Linux. What's broken? Is it a recent thing?

By wojtek88, 10 May 2016 at 8:00 am UTC

I have Dead Island (vanilla game) in my library for over a year and did not even give it a try. Reason? The game was developed by Techland and they've created Dying Light as well. I didn't play Dying Light, but it is very popular and well received and I have an impression, that Dead Island cannot be as good as Dying Light. And it makes me think that this game is a 2nd category game :).
I guess 3 euro for all the DLC and improved graphic is a reasonable price. I just wonder will I ever play it anyway...
