I'm now able to test Vulkan. :)

Some early The Talos Principle Vulkan benchmarks

Well, Croteam themselves said that for now OpenGL is faster, because Vulkan is just so new. I am no graphics programmer, but I would guess that their Vulkan renderer is far from optimal, simply because you cannot make optimal solutions in a technology that you just got your hand on for the first time. It's not like there are any real best practice examples you can lear from.

Personally I think the results are encouraging. Properly bechmarking stuff is hard, and plus minus 10 FPS may not mean anything more than that they do the things that are being measured differently.

Nice to see Vulcan out-performing OpenGL.

On a related note, I had no idea that Steam overlay had such a huge impact on performance!

Article updated, xpander noted to me in the IRC that Steam Overlay brings the performance down.

I have re-done some tests with Steam Overlay turned off. Page 2 hosts the Steam Overlay on benchmarks.

The Talos Principle beta updated, Vulkan performance improvements & optimizations

I pretty much cranked everything up except AA before and did some tests and found that perf was about 15-20% higher in Vulkan. It's now about 25% higher with all frames above 60fps, the lows being 72fps.

Although it's interesting to see the results for just a single minute it's also interesting to see the results afterward, since in the first minute of gameplay a lot of things are loading in the background. If you run a longer benchmark (say 2-3 minutes) it's interesting to see how performance changes. One thing to note is that in GL the game will judder, and it would hitch slightly at times. The original Vulkan beta would hitch sometimes but had no judder, and the newest release has no hitching for me.

Quoting: BoldosHmmmpfff - only a lack screen when I turn Vulkan on.....
Quite unfortunate :(

Try this as a startup option:

+gfx_strAPI "VLK"

I had the exact same issue; turns out it's due to the in-game menu. If you start in Vulkan mode, it runs in Vulkan mode.

I'm glad to see that I get the exact same performance that I got under OpenGL, with mostly high, some ultra, settings.

Quoting: slaapliedjeAnyone know if it supports local co-op play? [...]

I didn't find anything conclusive, but I did find this if it helps:

I do hope it has local co-op and LAN, I am much more likely to use those options..

Side thought, I know nothing about the Steam API, but I wonder if it could have a LAN-only fall back built in (or how hard that would really be).

Quoting: KimyrielleAnd really, so far I haven't heard a reason to implement such a feature that I wouldn't immediately dismiss as completely and utterly stupid.

The reason quite obviously is to show male players(*) what discomfort female players(*) are facing most of the time.

Well then, art is not always comfortable.

Transport Fever announced with Linux support, build a massive transport network
By Segata Sanshiro, 13 April 2016 at 2:44 pm UTC

Train Fever had a very good base, but there were a lot of niggling issues which prevented it from being really good. If they've taken the feedback from users into account, this should be a very good game :)

I did play Train Fever quite a bit! It is a really good game - still it has some tricky build mechanics (somtimes you mess up roads, railways, bridges etc.) and the performance is quite bet if you play the game for a long time through the ages.

If they fix the performance and bulding issues it might allready be a much better game. Also the industrial mechanics could be improved. Let's see what they're delivering!

Interesting. I'm still waiting for a game in the genre to even match OpenTTD on the gameplay front. Maybe this will finally be it?

How many points you capture, including how many ammo/fuel dumps you have. They kept us too busy with pushing to notice they were building up.

I'm using Ubuntu MATE 16.04 beta and I'm happy. I tried Manjaro, and liked it, but there were several Steam games that didn't like it, so I went back to Ubuntu MATE.

The game, by the way, installs just fine and is a pretty awesome game, too.

I really should give this another go. It's been quite a while since the last time I played it, and at that time there wasn't much alternative in difficulty between "puttering around" and "constant stream of zombies and things". Hopefully they've balanced things at least a little.

Edit: I took another quick look, and unfortunately you've still got a choice of no/minimal monsters and ALL THE MONSTERS. Wish they'd just add a "normal" mode in between.
