Escape from Tarkov, the new Russian Survival MMO FPS looks like it's heading to Linux

Looks like a Russian game; brown and shooty XD No offence, of course, but I've noticed a trend with Russian developers on early access :P That said, I'm itching for a good shooter!

What? XD Are you just trying to see if anyone pays attention anymore?

First-person puzzle game Attractio has been released on Steam
By Linas, 24 January 2016 at 10:55 pm UTC

Vaguely remembering the title I started looking through all the sites I ever bought games from, and there it was. Including a Steam key. That's the good news.

The bad news is that I also found a bunch of promising games that never got completed. Many even were greenlit on Steam just to never be seen again.

Anyway, it does seem like the game got a healthy chunk of development since I saw it last. Looking forward to finally playing it.

Hmmmmm, Arch is 4x present in this survey?

Why?
And why only Windows 7 and not 8 and 10?

On the Linuxside, why not only .deb and .rpm based Destributions?

Love the voice acting. Like when the character throws a grenade and shouts "here's a present for you, bitch." I have heard people complaining about English versions of Russian games, but they do not realize that it is actually quite hard to translate Russian slang accurately. For exampe the previously mentioned phrase is only 3 words in Russian.

Long story short, learn Russian, play in original language. :)

You can buy a non-steam version on their website. You can find this in the FAQ'S in Forum.

Quoting: burnallIt seems like that Russian's are more interested into Linux, perhaps due to NSA spying issues with Windows in last years? As for the game, It's kind of a COD in Russian way to me.
I could be wrong, but I think it's because consoles are much less popular than gaming computers in Russia (at least judging from the existence of the Russia-specific modern Halo computer game), and Steam Machines are console & gaming computer hybrids (which I think is especially appealing to Russians).

I have been looking for a gritty CO-OP FPS/TPS survival type game, this seems to fit the bill. Hopefully the gameplay is as good as the graphics.

Thanks for the heads up Liam.

From a purely graphical standpoint, it looks phenomenal, at, or even beyond, Metro Redux quality. Hopefully the game plays as well as it looks good.

Edit: After reading more about it on their website this game sounds amazing, like, too good to be true amazing. Hopefully it delivers.

I hope ET is in this pack ;P

I do wonder what games are in this pack, and I'm quite upset we don't see more of these anymore, back in the PS2 days we had things like "Sonic gems collection" which put 13-ish sonic games on one disc for a cheap price, where nowadays you get them all separately which costs more if you want them all.

I do wonder what games are going to be in this pack, Asteroids and centipedes are in there which is great, but what else? and will they be upgraded in any way? will they have interesting art to the side of them because they don’t fit today’s screen sizes? etc

Was that a genuine question? It means you have to start all over again.

Quoting: khalismuri) When working with normalized data (as in this case) the axis which refer to the distribution, the %, should have a fixed scale along all graphs for easier understanding. The vertical axis in this case was automatically generated for every graph I suppose, but fixing the top value to 100% would be much better;

I'd rather stick to the rule that graph space must be used efficiently. There is no reason to compare graphs side by side anyway so different scale shouldn't affect readability. Of course if the general consensus is to to go up to 100% regardless of the maximum value I'll be happy to comply.
No need to go up to 100% as long as the bar numbers are rounded nice and even. Instead of 24% use 25%. 69% could go to 80%. 82% could go all the way up to 100%. It makes things a lot more consistent and more easily readable.

Quoting: khalismurii) Makes absolutely no sense to work with more than two or three significant figures. "0.56%", "1.4%", "25%" or even "5.78%" are fine. Now, "78.94%" makes no sense.

Any one else would like to shoot at the 4th significative digit? ;)
Having the numbers alongside the graphs makes no sense and makes the presentation look to cluttered. Hide them or remove them.

Maybe there could be two kinds of surveys. One full version every second month (like we have now) and a smaller and quicker version for the rest. The small version could remove all the boring questions like desktop, gpu, drivers and then spice things up by adding a few more of the interesting questions (new ones each time).

Some feedback:
The previous survey results were much better presented than this. Anyone who works with statistics or data display can tell this presentation could be easily improved. Two suggestions I can offer you;

i) When working with normalized data (as in this case) the axis which refer to the distribution, the %, should have a fixed scale along all graphs for easier understanding. The vertical axis in this case was automatically generated for every graph I suppose, but fixing the top value to 100% would be much better;

ii) Makes absolutely no sense to work with more than two or three significant figures. "0.56%", "1.4%", "25%" or even "5.78%" are fine. Now, "78.94%" makes no sense.

Cheers

Quoting: STiATFinished it three times. Certainly was worth the money, expected a lot worse than it was. As expected, a very straight forward not really dialog-based story (a few choices about which way you're going, more demon-way or more human way), but a fun game. The gameplay / controls (playing keyboard/mouse) was sometimes rubbish, but I can see it work better with controllers (still need to get my steam controller).

The thing which was a bit annoying was the difficulty-jump to the end. Through the whole game, it was combat wise not really challenging at all, you didn't need a lot of tricks or potions anywhere, and the last boss was like a jump from 0 to 100. Even the end seems to be abrupt. Gave me the feeling that they had to cut the storyline to actually get the game out for what ever reason. That's of course just speculation on my side.

Overall I can recommend it if you like this genre of games, for the price tag it has, it was a lot of fun to me. It was even a steal a while back on steam at a sales.

it has so called "heavy gameplay" which is not liked by many people. you either have power or agility, never both and this requires more thought put into strategy. if you go and watch dark souls you'll notice the same pattern... use the weapon with most damage and roll like crazy and this doesn't work here, this is why reviews on this game are so poor

for me personally it was best buy i did

Regarding monthly or every two months survey, I vote for the monthly option. It's a five minuts or less survey, that could be filled using the mobile.

They'd better change the name of that first character before the BBC catches wind of it, they like to sue people for using their copyrighted names & Dalek is one of their biggest moneymakers from Doctor Who.
