Quoting: TimeFreezeI checked it out. Thank you for the recommendation. It had a few games that GoG didn't have.Quoting: TactikalKittyGoG will always be my first choice when buying games. Following closely behind would be Steam. Being able to download offline installers in this world of Microsoft and others trying so hard to push gaming to be all digital is a godsend. If you like DRM-Free games with an offline installer you might wanna check out ZOOM [External Link]

Quoting: PhlebiacI lived off of Shareware. So many games that I've bought on GoG were because I played the hell out of the shareware versions and couldn't afford to buy the full game at the time. Now I can play the whole thing. It was great times back then though. I really wish the market would go back to doing that. But it won't. It's up to the small indie dev teams to bring back this concept. Heck while were at it, bring back demo discs in pizza boxes.Quoting: Purple Library GuyShareware demos were a huge part of gaming in those days. It's quite limited in the selection of available titles though, since they can only put up games that are verified to be either Shareware, Freeware, Demos or games that were made public domain.I'm rather surprised to see that original Warcraft is apparently in this category.
So what the heck is an 'indie game' nowadays anyway?

When I think indie, I think itch.io. The reality is that I have played quite a few indie games and had an absolute blast not even realizing that they were indie games. Games like My Time at Portia, Terraria and Asdivine series. Then comes along games like Axiom Verge, Kena: Bridge of Spirits and oddities like Stray that really have the quality, care and passion put into them that put some AAA game developers to shame.

Quoting: EikeMany of us at one time had to uninstall and purge anything NVIDIA first, then set nomodeset 3 in grub to keep X11 from loading up and install the new .run driver from command line. This new method, you can install the new driver and if you have a system that support kernel unloading, you don't have to delete anything. the .Run install will handle it fine now. Mind you, this is pertaining to the manual installation of NVIDIA drivers provided by Nvidia themselves and not the ones handled by your package manager. For instance, let's say you are running Ubuntu 23.10 that has the NVIDIA 535 driver. If you want HDR support and VRR you need the newer 545 driver. Instead of waiting on Ubuntu to release the new driver in a new dot release, you can now manually install the driver provided by NVIDIA with much less hassle.Quoting: TactikalKittyAllows installing of future Nvidia drivers while the current driver is loaded. This is a BIG improvement and will make upgrading NVidia drivers much easier to the less tech savvy people. This is a big positive in my opinion!I don't understand this point. When I installed a new driver version, of course the old one was running, because, what else?!? Or is this something the Debian package solved for me?

Quoting: MarlockYeah, I've seen that. That's what I've heard and read online from quite a few people. It's weird how Linux can work sometimes. Strangely, 470, 490, 525 and 535 were all good to me.Quoting: TactikalKittyOpenSuse removed the 535 driver which worked perfect."perfect" is a strong word...

I want to switch over to Wayland but there is a bug in the nVidia 545 driver that is causing my system to freeze after a wake from sleep/hibernate event. This forces me to hard reboot every time. This seems to be a specific issue pertaining to this particular driver version and Wayland as this problem is reproducible on other distributions. The nVidia 535 driver doesn't seem to have this problem. Unfortunately, OpenSuse Tumbleweed doesn't have the previous driver anymore.

Quoting: hardpenguinWayland fixes A LOT of these issues.Quoting: TheRiddickGood to see some small fixes. I would like it if NVIDIA worked on getting Explicit Sync hooked up in Gnome and Plasma Waylands outside of unofficial patches and hacks.I would like it if NVIDIA addressed some decade(s)-long bugs with tearing and flickering 😭

Quoting: hardpenguinDon't worry. 545 Driver has been a total mess for me and others on OpenSuse Tumbleweed. Specifically with Wayland. System freezes up after every wake. OpenSuse removed the 535 driver which worked perfect. So only choice is to use X11 for now.525.147.05I am on this line, Debian Sid is famously lagging behind with NVIDIA drivers but I don't mind 😎
