Maybe it's the lack of FTL-style story telling glue? I was never much into completely abstract puzzle stuff and this feels closer to that than campaign strategy.

You may be on to there something. I'm currently also very into Into the Breach and spending an unreasonable amount of time on it to get all of the achievements on hard. I also feel it's missing the same pull.

Maybe it's also the higher complexity of FTL. In FTL you have different crew races, many different weapons/drones, different ship layouts, different subsystems with upgrades. Certain events depend on each of those and give you a reason to keep exploring the universe. Into the Breach has different combinations of pilots, squads and secondary weapons, but less of them. And nothing to explore since there is no story.

I picked this game up recently when I learned they had finally released the Linux version. It's like chess with explosions! The different squads you can play with all have a very different play style.

I did not get all achievements yet, but I'm glad I will be able to now. Now I just need to remember which store I bought it from...
