Quoting: furaxhornyxWhile I agree that DaVinci Resolve is a great software (I am not a video editor though), I guess it is not enough to make a lot of people make the switch.
The problem I see is tunnel vision. When something becomes big and popular, many people can't understand that there are viable alternatives.

I have seen people on YouTube talking about Adobe Premier as if it is the only way to edit videos professionally... and they can't see anything else.
Maybe, maybe not...

I use Excel at work, and I have tried several alternatives that "just do the same things", which may be true for most basic features, but far from it when it comes to advanced use.

So maybe it is the same for other software, such as video editing, photo editing... I am not in their professional shoes (far from it) to be able to tell wether they are viable replacements or not.

Quoting: AussieEeveeHeck, I know people that think Windows is a must have for gaming. They refuse to acknowledge that Linux even exists, let alone is a viable alternative. Had an argument not long ago with someone that thought only Windows could be used in high end gaming.
As for video games, of course, it is a different story, since it is the same software running on the same machine (but with different level of support: drivers, etc)

Steam Client Beta updated with PipeWire desktop capture for Remote Play

My ex-linux audio recording buddies biggest complaint used to be PulseAudio was terrible & JACK was very difficult to configure and maintain (2016?). They are more hopeful that pipewire is better but yet to try it. [...]
Same here ; I looked into installing Pipewire a few months ago, but from a few forums posts, it still seemed to be not mature enough yet... And with my little Linux knowledge, I am afraid I cannot fix anything if it goes wrong, so I'll be waiting a bit more

The Humble Be the Bad Guy Bundle has Dungeons 3, Postal and more

Quoting: CFWhitmanI have no interest in being the bad guy. I never really understood the appeal.
Because it is fun, to be able to play the "other side".
Besides, games where you don't kill/smash anything are rare, beside maybe sport and pure "puzzles".

Out of curiosity, which games do you play ?

Steam has turned 18 years old and PC gaming has never been the same since

According to Steam, my first purchase was Zeno Clash, in 2009.

I am pretty sure I had some Steam games before that though, such as Dark Messiah of Might & Magic...

Quoting: EhvisThis storage manager thing looks like it was created with the Steam Deck in mind.
I was thinking that too. But it's very fast and responsive, at least on Windows (don't judge me!).
Cast 'im out! Tar! Feathers! Wailing! Gnashing of Teeth!!!
For some reason I read this with an Ork voice in mind

Heroic Games Launcher for the Epic Store on Linux gets some essential fixes

Quoting: furaxhornyxI didn't have any problem yet when using it ; I am on Manjaro, but this is an AUR package so it should be the same package on Arch.
Maybe a newbie question, but how do you upgrade it in arch base distros ? On manjaro pamac doesn't show the newest version and I don't really know what to do with the .pacman files that I found on the github page.
Not sure what you mean ? On Manjaro (Cinnamon, not sure if relevant), using pamac GUI, I can see the version of Heroic Games Launcher (heroic-game-launcher-bin 1.9.3-1)

Quoting: Purple Library GuyGotta admit it takes me a bit of squinting to tell the difference. Look at the girl's skirt and you can kind of tell, but I'm not going "OMG, it was so bad before and it's so grt now!!!"
Of course it's not, but the textures seem to be a little less "blurry". You can tell if you look closely to the left girl's dress and jewellery, the knight armor, and the right girl's hair.

And the ground texture, too
