OpenGL over Vulkan driver Zink gets a huge performance boost

Quoting: CatKillerYeah, OpenGL was driven by the needs of CAD software when programs were single-threaded and hardware was a fixed-function rendering pipeline. Modern software and hardware aren't really like that at all.

There's an interesting set of articles [External Link] from one of the PowerVR people that describes how Vulkan does things differently to OpenGL.
I don't know if there's something like "historisch gewachsen" in English. "Historically developed" would be the literal translation, used in the meaning of it's old, many people had their hands on it, it served many purposes, maybe there's even people missing that understand it fully due to its complexity, ... Some day, such software has to be (slowly) replaced.
Legacy baggage and technical debt are related (and depressing) terms that spring to mind.
I was going to reply "technical debt" as well, but from now on, "historisch gewachsen" might become my new favorite

Left 4 Dead 2 updated with Vulkan support thanks to DXVK

To do so: right click the game and go to Properties, ensure you're on the General tab on the left, then enter "-vulkan" (without quotes) in the Launch Options box.
Shouldn't this be

-vulkan %command%

?

What have you been tapping play on recently? Let us know

Out of curiosity, I started playing Mannarites, and somewhat got hooked... The gameplay feels old and heavy, not unlike Golden Axe on Megadrive, but there is this strange appeal to it. Since the game is free to play, you probably should give it a try

Aside from that, I have been playing a little bit of Hero Loop (after beating the first boss several times, I discovered that there was a second chapter button available... duh!), The Darkside Detective, Huntdown (in co-op), and finally started Children of Morta in co-op. We played only a couple of hours, but the game really seems promising

Slimbook think they have the 'One' for you with their new compact mini-PC

Quoting: GuestWhy do they insist on putting USB 2 ports on computers? It’s so annoying, I never know if I am plugging into a USB 2 or 3 port. Is USB 3 so much more expensive?
Some peripherals will not work well on a USB 3 port ; especially, some, older, USB 1 peripherals, that will not be detected on USB 3 ports most of the time.

The absolutely awesome action-platformer shooter HUNTDOWN is out now for Linux

Bought it yesterday, can't wait to try it on co-op

System76 releases the open source Launch Configurable Keyboard

I am also not fond of the compact-style keyboards: no numpad, strange arrangement of del/end/page up, all top keys (escape, F1-F12) are all clustered together... I'll pass

Quoting: TuxeeLED lighting that doesn't illuminate the key labels? Sorry, but that must be the most idiotic design decision ever...
Yes and no... I have a spare keyboard which has RGB lighting. The thing is, the backlighting is quite strong, and can only be changed in color, or turned off. Problem: when turned off, the printings on the keys become invisible, and you can no longer see which key you are typing on. At least System76 design allows for turning the (annoying) RGB off, without making your keyboard unreadable.

There's also an AUR package for it: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/srb2 [External Link]

Quoting: CalinouI think SEGA allows fangames to an extent, but correct me if I'm wrong.
Didn't they ask to remove a fan-made version of Street of Rage, when Street of Rage 4 was released ?

On a side note, I love how the video thumbnail shows the "DLSS On" with slightly brighter colors, just to make the "without DLSS" picture appear dull

VR is absolutely insane, I am officially a convert and it works mostly great on Linux

I am still not interested in VR, but I wanted to say thanks to Scaine and Liam for this article

Finally got the time to launch Loop Hero, 12 hours in, and many more ahead !
Initially I wasn't too much attracted by the game and its poor graphics (pixel "art", but very far from Dead Cells and much more like Baba-is-You - Zoomed Out Edition...), but after watching a streamer playing it, the gameplay looked solid... and it is

Also, some friends made me discover TFT (through Lutris), but the action on the screen is quite a mess, and as an old League of Legend player, nothing makes much sense in it
