Quoting: 14I want to just play Dwarf Fortress like an elitist, hardcore gamer nerd, but I haven't been able to make myself take a week-long video class to learn how to play.

And that's just the introductory course, learning the rest takes a lifetime. ;)

Honestly though, if you can find the time to learn the basics, and you go into it with the aim of learning to play, rather than trying to win, you'll quickly pick up the experience you need to enjoy the game. (Having the Dwarf Fortress wiki on quick search helps too!)

Quotedoes it still require you to memorize keyboard shortcuts like you would a foreign language?

Dunno what game you were playing, but DF has pretty clear menus. You can memorize commands if you want, and it definitely speeds up play, but it isn't mandatory. :)

Quoting: GuestJust a heads up if you are on the fence about buying the game, it will cost more after release

That's a pity, I was hoping there might be a launch day sale. Oh well, congrats to the developer, but I'll stick with Dwarf Fortress. I can't justify paying £25 on a slimmed down version of a game I can play for free.

I have been playing:
Streets of Rogue - nearly unlocked all characters now. Very fun game, although the cop lock down mutator is annoying, I always get it when I'm trying to be pacifist. :/

Graveyard Keeper - pretty sure I'm almost at the end game of this now. Quests seem to build up a backlog, then when you finally progress one, it causes a chain-reaction of quest progression.

L4D2 - joined Sin for a stream and had a good couple of campaigns. L4D is always good fun, although it can become a bit of a timesink.

Beyond that, I've been replaying Legend of Zelda: Oracle of {Seasons,Ages} on my 3DS, and Spiderman on the PS4.

Sci-fi single-player survival game Planet Nomads is currently pretty broken on Linux

I haven't played it since they reneged on the multiplayer promise, thus limiting it to being yet another lacklustre single-player resource collecting and base-building game. It's a shame, because it could've been a great game to play with friends, competing or collaborating to create communities.

Battle Royale game Crazy Justice just had an update to the closed beta, we have keys to give away

Bah, it hard codes qwerty controls, so it's basically impossible for me to play on a dvorak keyboard. :(

I'll see if there's a config file somewhere.

EDIT: There is a config file ~/.config/Epic/CrazyJustice/Saved/Config/LinuxNoEditor/Input.ini
But it is empty by default, and gets overwritten with an empty file when you start the game, sooooo.. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

The excellent rogue-lite 'Streets of Rogue' now actually has an ending

QuoteAs per the city’s remarkably ill-thought-out rules, whoever has the Mayor’s Hat and makes a speech at the podium gets to be the mayor.

Hah, that's a perfect fit for this game.

I had a lot of fun with this. I'll definitely be jumping back in and trying to get to the actual end. It's definitely easier with a group of people, since ghosts can be resurrected so long as you have funds.

What are you clicking on this weekend and what do you think about it?

I'll mostly be playing Two Point Hospital, Graveyard Keeper, Mass Effect(P).

TPH: I'm on the third hospital now, and I'm just getting in to the training stuff. I'm enjoying it.

GK: I'm stuck on so many quests until I can get gold star beer. But I can't get hops because the miller won't sell them until "tomorrow", which never seems to come. Other than that, grind grind grind grind.

ME: Done most of the side quests now, so I'm off to confront Benezia.

Quoting: WorMzyI've been playing Mass Effect using Steam Play. For the most part, it's worked well. There have been a few crashes, but I think that's probably just the game rather than Proton.

Did you have to do anything special to make audio work? When I run Mass Effect using Steam Play, the intro audio works, and then the game is quiet.

Yeah, there's an asound override you need to do in winecfg: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40898

After that, sound works fine. For my system I had to run winecfg with the following prefix:
WINEPREFIX=/media/steam-ext4-fast/steamapps
compatdata/17460/pfx winecfg
you'll need to adjust your your setup.

I'm also playing The Long Dark and Two Point Hospital natively on Linux. Long Dark is always good fun, and Two Point is a very familiar-feeling game. I've only completed the first hospital so far, getting it to three stars, but I'm having a great time with it.
