Albion Online shows some impressive statistics for the MMO

In general, I it's probably a combination of the PvP focused aspects and the guild warfare.
I think the map is like one big guild battlefield, and they can control cities. The controlling guild picks a time window in which it can be attacked so they know when to have guild members on stand by to defend.
I'm looking at this page: http://albiononline.wikia.com/wiki/Guild_vs_Guild [External Link]
It says there's 5v5 fights and 20v20
Plus it seems really sandboxy. You don't have levels, you just learn how to use gear and basically have to craft everything. Guilds can own islands, players can own housing, etc..
I think all that combined with fairly hardcore death penalties (drop everything if killed by a player) which some people like because high risk means reward feels all that much better.
So Albion seems rather unique all things considered. Unless I'm mistaken. At least I don't think any relatively recent mmo's have many of these features.

Quoting: pr4vuscan't understand the hype. this really looks shit, nothing that hasn't been done (better) many times before. but each to his/her own.Around here it's probably because it's a native Linux mmo and we don't get a lot of those.

Makes me wish I had 3 more steam controllers (and 3 friends) to play this with.
Linux is holding exactly where we thought it would in the Steam Hardware Survey

Has there really been enough time to even expect the statistics to show initial influx in steamOS users?
I barely got my steam controller a few weeks ago, and I pre-ordered it. People are probably still just barely getting things coming in, and those surveys are few and far between.
Also, I'd imagine a lot of interested users would want to test the steam controller first to see if they even want to try gaming from their couch in the first place.
Some will get hooked on fiddling with their steam controller and start to wonder why they bother doing it in a PC chair instead of their couch, and then the steam machines might look more attractive.

I kind of get turned off from a game when I watch a trailer and can't even tell what genre the game falls under.
I almost feel like it's a gimmick to either get me to do more research about their game, or to just buy it and hope for the best. Either way it feels manipulative.
But I'm guessing this is a horror game where you walk around in first person but don't have any weapons or anything right?

Albion Online, my impressions of this new Linux MMO currently in closed beta

This game just happens to place emphasis on crafting and PvP. It's not for everyone, but some people like it this way.

Quoting: XzylActually to take an MMO that had crafting done right was the original GW where it was about prestige as all armor maxed out really soon and it was all about looks... then if you want to spend your life farming mats through monsters or god forbid mining have at it.But not everything can be optional. Games need some things to be necessary, and different people have different ideas about what that should be the necessary points of the game and what should just be extra. So you have different MMOs that place emphasis on different things.

I played during the alpha and some of the PvP zones required players to "flag" for PvP and those players will show up on your map, but you don't show up on theirs, so you can just go to a secluded area to gather resources if you want and easily be aware of any threats getting close to you. It also takes a very long time to flag for PvP so it's unlikely anyone could get close first and then take you by surprise.
It was also fairly easy to run away from people.
I would be interested in a GOL guild if it's more laid back without a lot of restrictions and rules.
Ever since I first heard of this game I've occasionally been looking on the forums guild recruitment page and I haven't found any I've been happy with. Most seem to be hardcore guilds, or want to restrict the number of players (which makes me think I'll eventually get kicked out to make room for someone else)
But I suppose it makes sense that the type of people who get in early to start forming guilds during alpha/beta would probably lean more toward the hardcore side. There will probably be more diversity when it releases.

Games have been getting labelled with MMO for years now as long as they have items or stats that carry over from server to server. TF2 is even considered an mmo to some.
No idea how that interpretation spread though.
I suppose the logic is that the context in which "massively" applies is a persistent world, and maybe some people consider connecting players by stats across many servers as constituting a persistent world? I don't know.
Anyways, the game looks interesting.

Albion Online MMORPG Closed Beta Date Announced

I played it during the alpha.
I haven't kept up to date on the latest information, but I think they were talking about changing the way gold works in the game.
I really hope they do because I like the hardcore game mechanics of dropping your loot when you die, but when other players are buying their gear with real money it takes them seconds to undo what it took you hours to make.
I'll definitely be playing it though.

However, most maps have low detail right now, so you could probably get decent performance for the time being on most maps, until they start finalizing them.

Quoting: khalismurHow is performance on lower-end systems? Does anyone know? I'm tempted to install to see.Not that great I don't think. I have a GTX 760, i7, and 8gb of ram and I can barely stay around 25fps on the detailed map outpost23 at minimum graphics settings.

Nova Blitz Trading Card Game Might Be My New Addiction On Linux

I've always wanted an online TCG where all cards owned by all players had to be earned through gameplay.
I know paying for cards has always been around in these games, so it's normal. But I just think the genre is really missing out by not having anything like that.
