ARK: Survival Evolved, The Unreal Engine Survival Game Will Release On The 25th For Linux
13 Jun 2015 at 4:47 pm UTC

I'm super excited for this game too. It's an instant buy for me as soon as Linux support shows up.

Quoting: KimyrielleIs this a pure first person game? Please tell me it's not. This is the first survival game that interests me (I am SO not into zombies!), but 1st person games make me seasick. :S
I think it is. It looks like there's been several threads on the issue on their forum and all say it's first person only (when walking, and 3rd person when riding a dinosaur)

Normally I would say I prefer it that everyone is locked to 1st person only (because of the visual advantage of 3rd person), but I never thought about people who get sick playing in 1st person.
I don't think that point has been brought up in any of the threads either so maybe the devs haven't considered it.

Valve's Source Engine 2 Looks To Be Coming To Dota 2 As A DLC
1 Jun 2015 at 6:42 pm UTC

So if it's DLC then people could end up playing the game against each other using different engines? That's pretty cool if that's how it works.

Maybe they're getting things ready for E3?

Voxelnauts, A Sandbox MMO Built On Linux & Needing Help On Kickstarter

Quoting: marcelomendesAh man, it is almost a perfect project to back, but free2play with micro-transactions, really? I hate this thing, because from this to pay2win is a thin line, I am leaning to back this, but this is something that bother me.
Well here is how I understand it from asking people in their IRC.

The game will initially release as a buy to play game. Going free to play is something they think they might do down the road when they have the funds for it or something like that, and that if there ends up being an in-game store it would probably just be player-made items. So nothing you can't create yourself.

But that's not coming from any of the developers, just people I talked to. I wish I could hear directly from a dev what they have to say about it.

I am completely blown away by this. It looks like an amazing game!
So far it's hitting all the right keys for me. Also, it looks like they will support Valve's Vive too and not just Occulus.

[EDIT]comment changed, as a I just learned the game is planned to be free-to-play eventually and may potentially have an in-game shop, which isn't something I'm a fan of. But I might be able to live with it if the game is as good as it looks.[/EDIT]

ARK: Survival Evolved, A Beautiful Unreal Engine Survival Game Is Heading Our Way

It seems Early access for Linux might be a possibility from what the devs wrote in this thread:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/346110/discussions/0/613957600545604522 [External Link]

One developer first claimed that it won't be for Linux early access, but then another developer corrected him and said that Linux will see early access just not day 1 of early access (but before the end of june)

This game looks so much fun!

Does anyone know what their business model is exactly? Please tell me they aren't going to sell in-game items. I'm really getting sick of every multiplayer game doing that, and I kind of miss the days when 100% of in-game content being available to all players online was the standard.

Steam Officially Starts Allowing Paid Mods In The Workshop, People Are Upset

I think this is just misplaced anger. It's giving people the same scent as things like in-game stores and DLC. People are just getting so sick and tired of that stuff that something like this gets caught in the crossfire.

My initial gut reaction was the same, I was about to get upset at this until I read what Liam wrote and thought about it a little more.
It's actually not that big of a deal and I wish all the people upset at this would focus their effort on something more worthwhile, like the actual game breaking monetization of some games.

Half-Life 2: Update, A Community Made Graphical Revamp Released For Linux

I mostly like Half-Life for the story. If you've never seen this [External Link] it's a lot more in-depth than you might have realized just by playing the games.
The concept of the combine and their methods of enslaving worlds is pretty neat.

I think they've done a good job of maintaining a certain feeling you get while playing the games that they managed to keep alive in all the HL games so far.
I'm almost worried that it might be too much for valve to pull it off for a 3rd time. Maybe it's better without a 3rd installment no matter how badly I might want it.

Quoting: deBeauharnaisAm I the only one to spot no real difference between the original and the updated version?
Ok, the shadows and the water are better, but this does not "make the game feel less empty"... This is just a small update.
I was thinking the same thing at first, but did you watch the whole video? It's like they saved all the best comparisons for the end or something. Also setting the video to HD helps.

Sales Statistics For Linux Games From Different Developers, Part 4
19 Apr 2015 at 12:59 am UTC Likes: 1

Quoting: seveni don't wanna spell doom or anything but i don't think steammachines gonna be a success, i hope i'm wrong but i don't see them kick a dent in the xbox/PS universe
The comforting thing about this though is that Valve doesn't expect it to compete with consoles. That's just not what it was made for, and I'm pretty sure they are well aware it's catering to only a small portion of their overall users. So even if sales aren't spectacular it doesn't mean the project was a failure at all.

It's good to keep that in mind, because I think the biggest threat to steam machines is not the low quantity of people who will buy them, it's all the people who are no doubt going to be comparing steam machines to console sales and spreading FUD all over the place the moment they realize steam machines sales don't measure up (which they almost certainly won't).
It's a threat to their success because it could cause even less people to buy steam machines when people see "not successful" all over the place, even though that standard of success is an artificial one that valve was never shooting for in the first place

Storm United, A Beautiful New FPS Now In Early Access, We Have Keys

The game looks really nice so far, I get much better performance in this than I do in the new UT (on their detailed map outpost23) which seems kind of odd because I don't think the graphics in UT are too much nicer than this just yet.
Can't wait until the servers start getting populated.

By the way, for the crashing bug when joining servers, I think it's only servers that are on the map BP_3
