Interstellar Marines FPS Big Update Due This Month, New Online Modes
16 Apr 2015 at 8:15 pm UTC Likes: 2

Quoting: FeistI would buy/would have bought this game in a second if it was a Singleplayer game. However, if I have interpreted things correctly it's mostly a Multiplayer game, with a "token" singleplayer-mode that (currently) does not offer much of a story/campaign/adventure.

Or has the situation changed since the last time I tried to get a feel for this game?
You might be able to say that's the case right now. But I thought their goal actually the opposite, that they wanted it to be primarily a single player game with multiplayer on the side.

I might be mixing this game up with another one, but I could have sworn a developer of this game commented that they only have a larger multiplayer component right now because it's just easier to do once you have all the game mechanics working. But creating a single player campaign still requires a lot of work beyond that

The GDC Videos From This Year Are Now Online, Including The Video On The Vulkan API

Quoting: ZeloxCan someone explain to me if vulkun are going to aim for gpu's aswell. Like nvidia?
Giving us nvidia users a better experince on linux?
Or is it only cpu's. I haven seen the clip, I will.
Vulkan is a complete graphics API. It's not an addition on top of openGL or anything.
As far as I know the relationship between vulkan, programs, and your GPU/CPU is the same as openGL and directX, just that the way it accomplishes the same things is different. It's supposed to give developers more manual control over the gpu, meaning programming for vulkan is supposed to be more difficult, but can offer much better performance

Why Are We Still Dual Booting?
12 Mar 2015 at 5:20 pm UTC Likes: 1

It would be great to have everyone make more of an effort in this area around the time steam machines start releasing.
It's still a long way off so I can understand why some people wouldn't want to give up wine/dual booting just yet. Even if we could double that 2% into 4 companies like blizzard will probably still be waiting to see what happens with valve.
So if everyone can at least go cold turkey from windows/wine for a few months after steam machines drop that could be really helpful.

Tell Blizzard You Want Linux Support In Their Games
11 Mar 2015 at 12:44 am UTC Likes: 2

Apparently Blizzard (co-founder) responded to the petition which now has over 2,800 signatures with:
I certainly appreciate your passion and enthusiasm around this. Those are some great comments that you have included below, but the numbers just aren’t there right now. Linux usage represents less than 2% of installed desktop operating systems browsing the web, and I would assume most of those people also have access to a Windows or Mac device capable of playing Blizzard games.

We will continue to monitor the growth of Linux, but it is very unlikely that this will be something that we pursue in the near future.
I always knew to keep almost no expectations from Blizzard when it came to Linux, but I must admit I got my hopes up a little with the thread linked to in the article because the OP said he was asked by someone at blizzard to do this, indicating some interest on their part.
So to see such a definitive 'no' shortly after is pretty disappointing.

Unreal Tournament Has Come A Long Way, New Beautiful Map Included
3 Mar 2015 at 10:39 pm UTC

People always talk about alpha games having lower performance because they are "unoptimized". How much of a difference might that actually make in the final version?
I get pretty low FPS when there's 20 or so people in the server.

The new map looks amazing though. I'm really glad they decided to go with visual clarity instead of all the washed out color and post processing effects of most modern shooters.

Editorial: Linux Gaming Will Be Fine Even Without Steam Machines Succeeding

The main article and @sleort's post are very good reads

Also, I think UE4's particular take on development is worth mentioning. (from https://www.unrealengine.com/blog/unreal-engine-4-and-linux) [External Link]
That is why, somewhat counter intuitively, we need robust Windows and Mac OS tools that would allow anyone to target Linux by just recompiling and repackaging the project.
They aren't just supporting Linux, but trying to make it as effortless as possible for developers who might only care about windows/mac, so that at some point it would almost make no sense for those devs to not port to Linux regardless of how bad they think Linux sales might be.
UE4 alone should be able to bring many new Linux games, and hopefully more developers will come to adhere to their same mentality as time goes on.

Dota 2 Managed To Hit Over 1 Million Players

I think the "bad attitude" is more viral than a good one in a lot of online games because it stands out more.
It's easy for people to think that the entire community is like that, which leads to people mirroring that attitude or giving up on the game because it has a bad community.

Yet regardless of how it appears, I still think that good attitudes are more prevalent. Rarely have I ever seen more than 1-3 players acting like jerks out of the 10 players in each game. So roughly 30% of the community are jerks? That's not so bad really.

Just as an example of why I think the majority is more mature than that, people used to always say things like "commend me" at the end of every game. So at first glance this can lead someone to think the community is just selfish and the only reason they ever try to act nice is so they can get commends.
But almost as an experiment I started leaving little comments like "asking to be commended is not commendable".
and surprisingly I get more people saying they agree with that sentiment, they'll saying things like "ya, I never commend people who ask for it"

My point is, the silent majority is a lot smarter and more mature than you might give them credit for if you focus too much on all the people with childish attitudes.

GOL GOTY Awards Are Over, Here's The Top 10 From Each Section

With so many games it might be nice if people could rank their top5 or something where your top ranked game would get 5 points, the second would get 4 points etc..

Because if two games are very similar then it really might come down to a cointoss as to how people vote, and so all the votes for those games would be split in half. But if they could rank them then both of those games would get a bunch of 5's and 4's which might be more accurate

[EDIT]A better example might be source engine games. Say you are voting based on quality of the game ported and 100 people think the source engine was ported well. Do you vote for HL2? CSS? etc.. So those 100 votes might become 20 per game or so[/EDIT]

Just brainstorming
