Quoting: SkullyCan you upload this somewhere? In case it never gets implemented in nvidia-drivers I would really like to have this as a workaroundQuoting: stssNow we just need something to be able to forcefully limit fps in Linux, like windows users can do with nvidia-inspectorI have actually written a ".so" file that I LD_PRELOAD into any game allow the following.
1/ Force vsync on
2/ Force vsync off
3/ Force a FPS limit of your choice (framecap)
4/ Adaptive vsync ( Just like you can in with Nvidia on windows)
Nvidia opened an enhancement request back in 2012 to implement adaptive vsync and we still don't have it.
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/524735/adaptive-vsync-/ [External Link]
EDIT: I am going to see if I can get Nvidia to implement it in nvidia-settings or something.

What Can You Do For Linux Gaming?

Wouldn't it also be a good idea to plant the idea in developers (and gamers) heads that if they wrote platform independent code from the beginning then there would be hardly any porting needed to do at all?
I feel like all we ever hear about any more is ports. What happened to wanting native code?
If we continue to just talk about nothing but ports then everyone including developers is going to get it stuck in their heads that the proper path of supporting linux is start with windows > port to linux
and that's not good. It's even not good for your average gamer to think that because it just solidifies the misconception that "windows is for gaming and Linux is isn't", which we've all probably heard many more times than we should

I'm excited for the steam controller.
I also think there are 2 things that could make steam machines pretty popular.
An extremely cheap and portable (small) "stream box" that is just designed to stream steam games from your PC to a TV and not actually handle much graphics processing of its own
and possibly a handheld steam machine. I know the announcement about the handheld one a while back was a fake, but it's not a bad idea. I would definitely get one and it would probably encourage me to buy different types of games too, like more platformer style games.

But we are more reasonable than that, of course that's not the case. But I fail to see how an improved statistic (even an uncertain one) is cause to say that we did worse somehow than the windows users.
The problem is simply that sales were bad across the board. Linux upheld it's expected share of the sales and then some. There is nothing to any of these numbers or statistics that justifies them singling out Linux users.
As in your example, with 2 sales 1 being Linux that's not much of a statistic, but it's also sure as hell not justification for them to put the blame on Linux.

Quoting: SkiskiIf they had only sold 2 copies, 1 on windows and 1 on linux, that would be 50% for linux, which is huge, but only 1 sale is just horrible. Percentage only matters if the sampling is big enough. 900 sales are not really representative compared to the millions of steam users. But this argument doesn't really say much. Even if statistics are uncertain, and they are abused for their uncertainty, that abuse of the statistics would point at windows users not doing their part.

What is with developers misunderstanding their own statistics? This also happened with Garry's mod
Linux users only make up about 2% of steam overall. So 2% Linux sales is the baseline for "normal" reception from Linux gamers.
You should only question that if your sales are below 2%, and if your sales are above 2% you should be thanking Linux users, not taking a dump on them.
This makes me feel no sympathy for them whatsoever. To blame the group of gamers that had a higher ratio of supporters within its own playerbase than the other OS which they didn't even mention is inexcusable.
This sort of thing makes us look bad when in fact it should be just the opposite.

I'm thinking that's 4 games total, and that the 3 mentioned in this article are separate from Civ.
Because like the writer said, they are just being cryptic because they "can't give full details" but they've already announced the civ port.
But even if not, 3 games is really awesome too, and it sounds like they're pretty enthusiastic about porting these games so that's good
I wonder if the "super secret project" is included in that 6 month period
